FAdmiral -> New Ship Types/Very Different (12/24/2009 9:57:19 PM)

The new ship types are very different from the older WITP game. It seems like there
are more of them and the duties are much more specific than before. Case in question:
The AS ship is supposed to supply subs and in WITP it always did. Now it does not if:
1. Supply carried is 0 (???) 2. Nationality is different from the subs being serviced (???)
So many changes in the AE of WITP that is not fully explained. Not in the book.....

The AS does need supplies aboard to perform its work (as do the ADs, AGs, AEs,etc). The good news is that if the tender uses up all of its supplies it can load them straight from whatever port it happens to be anchored in (in effect, creating torpedoes from cans of beans - but it's a game fudging that I can live with).

John Lansford -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/24/2009 10:16:04 PM)

I've had no trouble with AS ships resupplying subs from another nation.  I've got a Dutch AS at Darwin that was resupplying British, US and Dutch subs without any problem, and USN AS at Townsville resupplying Dutch subs.  They do need to have supplies on board the ship though; just load supplies and turn on "do not unload" and they'll service any sub that needs supplies.

FAdmiral -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/25/2009 1:25:39 AM)

Ok, I tended to think it was the supplies aboard the ship (#1) and not the nationality of the ship
but I wanted to make absolutely sure this was the case. I have wasted too much time already discovering the differences between WITP and WITP:AE that was NEVER mentioned in the book !!!

In my current game I noted that Singapore wouldnt load my dedicated Dutch sub minelayers. A bit off topic but a noteworthy issue.

Did you check to see if you had Dutch mines in the inventory?  IIRC the stocks of those mines is very low and you won't replace them quickly, if at all.

FAdmiral -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/25/2009 5:20:04 PM)

Yes, the mines in the pool, another issue entirely. It seems that the USA is only producing 1 mine per day for
all its CM & DM ship types. An entire factory that produces only 1 per day. Is the entire work force sleeping
on the job??? They can build planes faster than that !!! And BTW, some of the speciality ships show cargo
capacity while in port but when activated into a TF, it disappears??? Whats up with that......

big mines?

John Lansford -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/25/2009 9:16:16 PM)

Mines were nerfed in AE to stop the massive minefields that were being used in WitP.  Now you just get a few and have to decide carefully where to put them.

There is only one guy working in that factory, and he is not very motivated.

Yes I had mines available. I had not expended any at this point. I was just starting a new game and I realised it might be a good thing to load up O-19 and 20 with mines, however the nearest port was Singapore that was large enough for me to load mines. I sent 19 there and got a message saying this port couldnt suppy the mines. I have not yet moved either sub back to Java to try again. I have 300 mines in the inventory for Dutch MLs. Assuming the subs expend the same ones I should be golden. In fact I almost cried a hour ago when a IJ sub hit one of the three Dutch MLs I had on a mining op around Kuching, 75 mines down the drain.

SS O-19 use MK2D Mine, Dutch Mine Layers uses VH MK2 Mine

FAdmiral -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/27/2009 3:45:49 AM)

As of Feb. 15, 1942 - Here is my list of mines in the pool:

MMKII - 240
MK6 - 10
MK10 - 54
VH MKII - 1
MMKIID - 24
M26 - 50
Patt 08/39 - 55
KB - 56
PLT-2 - 52

Right now the MK6 is the mine I would use most if the %$#&^^%$ factory would get
off their duffs and start building them in earnest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes indeed. It was Dilberts Uncle [:D]

FAdmiral -> RE: New Ship Types/Very Different (12/29/2009 6:30:59 PM)

OK, found the 20.1.2.2 "Ship Rearmament at Ports Table" in the manual.
It has a rearm section on Guns, Mines & DCs and Torpedos (also a CAG Rearm).
It gives the base sizes & requirements for each weapon reload.
Some of the mines have no tender thay can relaod from (have to get them from
the pool) but others listed can be reloaded from certain size bases. Not all mines are
listed so I don't know if the patches made changes in these charts or not ?????
