Gil R. -> Season's Greetings from WCS (12/27/2009 9:39:01 PM)

We at Western Civilization Software would like to wish all of you a happy new year, and to express our hope that you are having a merry Christmas or already enjoyed Hanukah/Hanukkah/Chanukah/etc. Or, if you're not religious, that you have at least enjoyed some secular aspect of the holiday season, such as the traditional appearance of Jay Thomas and Darlene Love on "Letterman."

It is a bit early to go into detail, but 2010 will see multiple releases from us, in a burst of creativity not witnessed by humanity since the Bay City Rollers were at the top of their game. This will include two games based on two new engines and at least one game (and possibly as many as five!) based on modified versions of the COG:EE/FOF engine. As soon as we see fit to announce the nature of these projects we shall do so, most likely along with a call for testers. (In the case of two projects we are quite close to starting testing, but since we already have a group of excellent testers who have helped us with COG:EE and FOF we will not make a call for testers until we are further along; in the case of the third definite product we will start internal testing sometime in March and probably issue a call for testers in summer.)

In the meantime, enjoy the holidays (and remember to take advantage of the Matrix sale!).

Thanks, same wishes go to you and the WCS Team, and thanks for the info about all that ongoing stuff, sounds awesome. :)

The Matrix sale together with some AARs  (terje439's "Do you hear the people sing?!" gave me the final push :)) made me buy CoG:EE and I love it.

Great to know. Welcome aboard!

GorgoPrimus -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/15/2010 3:40:10 AM)

Any chance that one of those will be a Forge of Freedom General's Edition? :)

Gil R. -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/16/2010 6:54:22 PM)

We are not actively working on a FOF expansion or a FOF2. Which is not to say that fans of FOF will be completely disappointed in what WCS churns out over the next year or so.

V22 Osprey -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/16/2010 8:04:24 PM)

Will the next game use a newer engine?

I'm begging for *atleast* one of your of games to be able to take the full glory of my 17in Widescreen.

Gil R. -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/17/2010 6:28:08 PM)

Two of our next three releases are based on new engines, and in both cases you will get your wish.

Ah come on Gil, no "specific" hints on what to expect? Can you at least give us some periods in time to read up on in preparation? [;)]

I am also very curious...any timframe (antics, medieval, industial revolution, modern)?

Thanks

I am still playing the original Crown of Glory but am tempted to get the new version as well as FoF...

Gil R. -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/20/2010 7:19:57 PM)

Hmm. I guess it can't hurt to say that, in terms of timeframe, one will involve gunpowder and one will involve more sophisticated weaponry.

In terms of your own decision regarding whether to go for FOF or COG:EE, I can say that while we're working on another game based on the COG/FOF engine that would combine strategy and tactics, the three games that we definitely intend to release this year -- i.e., the ones that will be ready for testing within the next 4-8 weeks -- will not feature such a combination. So if you want a WCS game with tactics+strategy there is no third option about to appear, with the earliest chance of one much later in 2010, if not sometime in 2011.

Anguille -> RE: Season's Greetings from WCS (1/20/2010 10:43:57 PM)

Thanks for the reply (merci),

I guess these games (2010) will be either strategic or tactical then...

Gunpowder sounds good...

Guess i'll start with FoF at one point...

Cheers

Thanks Gil.  Some info is better than no info.  Can't wait to see what rolls off the line this year.

Instead of writing a new holiday greeting to our customers, I hereby wish to recycle this post. Everything written a year ago applies, having been written a year prematurely...[8|]

(One of the projects has since been revealed, and is "Brother against Brother.")
