Most of you probably already know this, but I'll say it anyway.

For special teams i've found these plays to be best.

Kickoff Normala VS Kickoff Extra.........AND.........Punt Extra VS Punt return extra.

To me they are the most realistic and get the occasional return for a TD. Sometimes 10 games can go by without a single KO return for a TD and then I see them back to back. You also get a good mix of returns. It's not always all or nothing.

The other thing I wanted to point out was moving to a 35 second clock instead of the 40. That ended the annoying thing the QB would always do when coming to the line. Looking both ways or pointing out to the right. That used to drive me crazy. Now the play clock gets to under 10 seconds too quick for him to do that.

I do not mind the quarterback making adjustments, but it looks to be in slow motion, and that gets boring in a game.

I mentioned that in beta, but again, it was not considered a bug, so it hit the backburner if it hit anything at all.  I could write a book about all of the small things that I brought up in beta, but with a one man developer, if David did not get it correct the first time, it was unlikely to be changed in any timely version of the game.  That was the reality of the situation.

LOL!!! What do you mean the QB making adjustments? Is the QB actually doing something? I mean AI vs AI. I just thought it was for show. He either goes to the line, sets and the ball is snapped. Or he looks both ways......or points to the right and then looks left. Does the last one mean he is changing the play?

It is just for show. It is pretty nice, but it looks like someone pushed the slow motion button on the Tivo, and it takes too much time if the coach wants plays run quickly.

As long as we are talking about adjustments, one thing that I always thought should have been part of the game was having audibles based on formation rather than general audibles. That means that all formations would have had four audibles associated with them, which is not only more realistic, it would have cleaned up the mess that can happen if an audible is called with different personnel or a formation where the receiver is on the other side.

That was a design decision that was made well before I was on the beta team.

Ok, I always thought it was for show. This is why I went to the 35 second clock. It pretty much eliminates it completely. I set up the plans and play AI vs AI. With 12 minute quarters it shortens the game from about an hour 10 minutes to just under an hour. It's amazing how much time that saves.

Your audible idea is perfect. But add the ability for the AI to also audible.

......and i think what i did for penalties actually worked. I'm not seeing nearly as many. Nothing annoyed me more than all of those penalties. Not even the QB and his arm wave.[:)]

Marauders -> RE: A couple tips (1/2/2010 7:59:56 AM)

I have not looked at the penalties for a long time.  When I was beta testing, I played so many partial games, I almost thought that NFL games ended at half time. [;)]  I am not playing much at this time, as I have been working on other things.

I may have David's exact reply about the arm waving quarterback somewhere in my saved email, PMs, and notes, but he basically thought the preplay timing was the same as in a real game, so it was not something that needed to be changed.  My son and his friend thought the slow speed of the animation made the game look bad, and that can be a big deal for sports games.
