Larry, I took a quick glance at the end of turn file for turn 117. It seems to me that you have far too few troops protecting the flanks of your advance on Stalingrad. There are sections of the line that are very weakly held. I have no experience as Germans but it seems to me that the Germans are in a very dangerous situation. If Dave decides to try and take the initiative early, AGS is going to have to make a very costly withdrawal. Why not take some troops out of the center to reinforce AGS?

I've got about 5 divisions that are "resting" and are available.....I'll move them down there to help hold the flanks. I was wondering if anybody was going to take a quick glance at the end of turn file.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 118 (5/11/2010 10:41:21 PM)

I'm posting the Axis turn 118 AAR on my site.  http://65.101.188.183

I'm still expanding the bulge down south near Stalingrad.

Karri -> RE: Turn 118 (5/12/2010 10:29:08 AM)

Just wondering, what is your airforce doing?

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 118 (5/12/2010 12:46:51 PM)

Here's a listing of the squadrons and their position, mission, and current health. There are two squadrons that are down to a handful of planes left, we're not building the aircraft type they have anymore, so the're not going to get any "better" and are on the verge of being evaporated so I moved the Croat squadron to Berlin to "rest" and there's a Romanian bomber squadron that's down to about 9 planes so I moved it to Budapest ( or somewhere in Romania ). Other than that the rest of them are doing AS or CS missions. Nobody is on Interdiction anymore and the AS levels are asymetric: something like 34 for me and 101 for him. He's winning the air war.

Ribak -> RE: Turn 118 (5/12/2010 7:19:27 PM)

Now THAT'S an answer [;)]

pionier -> RE: Turn 118 (5/12/2010 9:37:59 PM)

Why no interdiction?

Why no interdiction?

The Soviet dude, Dave, has already moved the greatest majority of his units to where they are going so there is very little traffic, what Soviet traffic there is is beyond the range of my fighters so any of my interdictors is going to be interdicting beyond where my fighters can reach and therefore risk being shot down on almost every flight they make. I don't believe I can afford to loose a lot of interdictors right now so I've put a moritorium on interdiction missions so far. If the situation changes, and I doubt that it will anytime soon, then of course the missions will change. The missions that are needed are the ones that will get assigned. Right now I need the CS missions to try to make a hole in the Soviet lines somewhere.

I'm working on my moves for turn 119 right now and have produced the image of the front lines as they are at the beginning of turn 119. You can find that image on the beta version of the AAR which you can find at my site: http://65.101.188.183

Bamilus -> RE: Turn 119 (5/12/2010 11:02:17 PM)

Larry,

I've been reading your D21 turn by turn AAR for newbies and it's great! It's helped me understand the game a lot better. I have some questions, however, that I'll post once I get done reading through the whole thing. Thanks for typing it up!

I thought I wasted my time putting that thing together.....I'm glad someone is getting some use out of it.

Take some notes while you're reading and we'll do a marathon Q & A thing. LOL.

Karri -> RE: Turn 119 (5/13/2010 7:35:08 AM)

It seems like they are quite spread out, have you tried concentrating them on South to try gaining local air superiority?

Most of my fighters are concentrated around Leningrad and Stalingrad ( roughly speaking ) since I need the air cover the most in those two areas. I've noticed that the fighters in the south are sometimes in reorg, more often than the fighters in the north.....that probably means that I need more fighters in the south.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 120 (5/13/2010 2:17:00 PM)

I just received Dave's moves for turn 119. I watch the playback and already it's turn 120. I'll post the beta version of the AAR.

Hey.....off topic a little bit........there's a site in China or somewhere that keeps sending gibberish to my web site. I found the URL in my log(s) and looked it up and here's what I found:

Ribak -> RE: Turn 120 (5/13/2010 4:43:19 PM)

These Chinese bastards are everywhere [:D]

EDIT: Maybe a quick word (no drawings necessary) from the Sowjet da hughe d?
How do you see the situation at Lenin- and Stalingrad?

Best regards,

Hey Dave: while you're answering that....how about something about your losses so far. I'd be curious to know what the Soviet losses are right about now.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 120 (5/13/2010 9:09:53 PM)

I put some code in the web server to ignore the Chinese dudes that try to break into my site. Let's see them hijack my site now.

I would have used the nukes. It's the only way to be sure. [:D]

Da_Huge_D -> RE: Turn 120 (5/15/2010 5:15:21 AM)

Here's infantry losses at end of turn 120:

@Ribak:
Stalingrad doesn't hold long. I'm bringing more troops there every turn but Axis pressure is so damn hard.

Leningrad fortress keeps up good defence pretty well. I still have the City central-hex. LOL. That's great thing.

Panama -> RE: Turn 120 (5/15/2010 5:40:22 AM)

you have enough rifle squads on hand to build 220 rifle divisions. [X(]

and each turn you add enough to build 8 more rifle divisions. [:D]

Yeah. After loss of Stalingrad & Leningrad R-Squad rate will be something like 1000 - 1100+ /turn.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 120 (5/15/2010 7:36:04 AM)

I'm building only something like 428 HRS squads per turn so even *IF* I get lucky and capture Leningrad and Stalingrad Dave will STILL be producing more than 2 X whatever I can produce of everything including, and especially, tanks. So I've already lost the attrition war. It's got to be maneuvoure or nothing. I mean I can't hold the front line for long whenever he gets his ENTIRE army on the front. I expect that will happen in about 10 turns from now. Maybe shorter. The trouble is that the '42 winter offensive starts right about then too. So he'll get a shock bonus and I'll be tired from all this fighting and he will have the advantage and I'll start to do defensive things instead of offensive things and it'll all go downhill from there. How's that for a prediction? I cut back, way back, on my attacks for the last three turns or so because I'd like to see 33,000 HRS squads assigned somehow. It's hovered around 32K for the last 10 turns or so and I haven't seen it hit 33K YET. Must be because of all my losses from the attacks each turn that's keeping it down there in the 32K range. Maybe I should cut back entirely on the attacking business. But I'm SO CLOSE to captureing Leningrad and Stalingrad that I feel like I *should* keep trying.
Thoughts? Anybody?

Da Huge D may you could show planes + tanks too?

pionier -> RE: Turn 120 (5/15/2010 8:43:15 AM)

HEy Larry when you hold your Hex you take in 121 near Stalingrad you got the 10% destroyed! ;-)

And why do you not attack first the Hexes around Leningrad? I don't see any use in this two side attack.

regards

IIRC, even if you capture Leningrad and Stalingrad he will still be producing twice as many T-34 as was historically made. So you need to up the production of those FT-17 French tanks to counter that. [:D]

But seriously, you have lots of green so resting folks isn't an issue. Maybe straighten your lines to get more reserves? Get in the fox hole, strap your M-1 steel pot down real tight, bend over, grab your ankles. You probably know the rest. [:D]

I think you're correct. I think maybe I should try 3-sided attacks instead. Here's a turn-lapsed movie showing the Axis advance near Leningrad. It's from turns 117 through 121. It shows that I'm taking hexes around those two I'm already in and attacking from. I'll eventually have the city I'm thinking.

Ribak -> RE: Turn 120 (5/15/2010 2:08:08 PM)

Soviet Production seems a little bit too high (compared to the historical one ...)
Anyway, impressive - Russians have more HRS ON HAND than Axis in field ... crazy [:D]

Tactics: You have to take Leningrad Larry - for the moral of your men facing the asian hordes [;)]
Stalingrad is tricky - you have to choose the right time to stop you offense (in order to survive the upcoming Soviet one).
And think of the pm I wrote you [8D]

Really enjoying this AAR [&o]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Turn 122 (5/17/2010 1:44:45 AM)

I published the AAR for turn 122 on my site which as you guys know by now is found here:

In 1942 Soviet T34 production averaged about 120 tanks per game turn. In the last quarter of 1942, when the Axis advance was at it's zenith the Soviets were producing their maximum number of tanks for the year, 168 T34 per game turn.

I'm not sure how many T34 your Soviet opponent is getting per game turn but I imagine it's almost double the last quarter 1942 number.

pionier -> RE: Turn 120 (5/17/2010 6:43:35 AM)

@ Larry congratulations you took Stalingrad Produktion ;-)

Didn't you check your news?

No I didn't check my news. Well well well. What do you know. I guess I'm doing better than I thought.

EDIT:

I bet Dave is jumping up and down, throwing things against the wall, hissy fit mad.
