sadja -> saving Wake pilots (1/5/2010 12:11:01 AM)

Is there any way to save wake pilots. I known it is a minor thing, but I want to save Hammerin Hank Elrod. If I withdraw the planes, They all are damaged and the airfield is at 99 damage.

Second question?

How do you create training groups. I searched the forum and got some hits but still don't understand.

Thanks ahead of time for any help

If they are still flyable (and the airfield is operational) you can fly them off to a carrier (they are carrier capable). Some pilots will stay behind if there are damaged aircraft.

I am not sure if the port size is sufficient to crate up the damaged aircraft on an AK...which would likely get sunk anyway [:)]

First question -

vs. AI: Send TF 405 (Lexington group) to Wake; transfer VMSB-231 to Midway enroute. Once near Wake, transfer the planes to Lexington. You usually have 2-3 days to do this before the AI invades Wake.

vs. PBEM: Same basic plan, but far more dangerous, depending on when your opponent attacks Wake. Is it worth risking Lexington just to save a handful of planes?

Second question -

If you are asking about the Training Groups as defined on page 260 of the manual; these are no longer in the game, they were removed in one of the patches. You can still set up an air group to train, as the group's misson.

Hope this helps.

If it is just a specific pilot or two that you want to save, you can open up the squadron's pilot screen and put those pilots into reserve status. Then open up another squadron (located somewhere else - like the parent squadron back on Oahu), hit the "request veteran" button and choose that (or those) specific pilot(s) to transfer into the second squadron.

Or just put them into the general reserve, click them once to go to group reserve and a second time to get to general reserve. (You might need to pull some more pilots in before being allowed to go to general reserve, just make sure they are "replacement" pool pilots.

Usually, when you disband the pilots and most of the planes go to the pool. If it is in red then you lose the planes but keep the pilots. I have noticed that restricted units in the US that are forced to disband rather than withdraw lose all pilots and planes but those are the only ones. Many of my disbanded PI pilots have showed up in the pilot reserve.
