dpstafford -> Shortland = BlackHole for "S" boats (7/2/2002 10:36:16 PM)

This has happened to my US "S" class submarines repeatedly, now in TWO different games, so I feel compelled to report it.

Each time I send an "S" boat to patrol in the Japanese held Shortland base hex a strange thing happens. The turn after it arrives, with no combat activity reported, it's fuel and endurance drop to 0 (zero). This doesn't seem to happen to Gato class boats, or at any other "dangerous" hex such as Rabaul or even Truk.

Both games are PBEM affairs , version 1.11, scenarios 16 & 17.

Has anyone else seen this?

Hi,

Playing against the AI in other scenarios I haven't had any problems placing "S" boats in Shortland. Maybe it has to do with PBEM?

Same here. In my most recent go at scn#17, I have sent no less than three S-boats to harass the Japanese shipping at the Shortlands. There have been no problems like what you have run into although this is a vs. AI game instead of PBEM.

The Shortlands have proven to be a target-rich environment for my subs and they are getting daily hits on enemy AP and even picking off the occaisional DD at times. ;)

Maybe this is a PBEM-unique situation you are experiencing.
