ereiser -> Game does not recognize battle file (1/18/2010 1:47:17 AM)

Marshal,

I have an issue in a game I am hosting. I have landed troops in France and the French have attacked them. He sent me his land and battle files, I put them into their appropriate folders, but after I load the land phase, the affected area does not show the yellow outline and when I click on the area, I get the message "You are not involved in this battle or battle has not started yet".

Reported to Mantis as issue #613, with my gamefile and battle file attached. I am hoping you can fix this. the French have a 2nd battle following this one, it also was not highlighting.

Since there are GB and Russian units present I wonder if the game is trying to get GB to fight the battle ? What happens if you send him the battle file ?

DC,

Had that happen in another game I was involved with so it was one of the first things we checked.  GB gets the same result, then when the French player opens his game, the opening screen states that he is waiting for battle results from the Russians.

Fair enough, although who it says it is waiting for battle results from can be misleading too, it usually says the same for both sides !

Marshal,

Have you had a chance to look at this.  We are at a stop.  Mantis #613.

This sounds like a major issue.

Not yet. Will try today but will be traveling much of today. I'll let you know what I find out...

I took a look this morning and have posted a few questions on Mantis!
Basically, if you could get me the French land phase with his move instructions then I can see what is going on??? It looks as if the French have NOT started the battle???

ereiser -> RE: Game does not recognize battle file (1/27/2010 4:18:40 AM)

I have posted the French land phase to Mantis.  Not to state the obvious, but how could they have sent me a battle file if they had not started a battle?

I wonder if the problem is with the person sending the file? Is it the right file, or is the right file being created?

Got it and looking...
LOL! To your point, remember I said it "looks" like the French had not started the battle!

A big "Thank You" to you, Marshal.  The battle is on!

To all reading.  This is a problem that can affect any game, but will not show up often, but is fairly simple to fix.  The problem is areas on the map that have 2 word names and e-mail programs that don't like "empty" spaces between words.  This battle was being fought at "Saint Malo" and one of our e-mail programs replaced the space between 'Saint' and 'Malo' with an underscore, hence "Saint_Malo", which the game did not recognize.  Example below:

"pbembattle_Gamename_Saint_Malo0.battle"  = wrong
"pbembattle_Gamename_Saint Malo0.battle"  = correct

Marshal has indicated that this will be fixed for 1.08.  Easy to fix in the meantime by simply renaming the battle file.

Again, Thanks, Marshal.

Darn, sorry I have seen this before and should have mentioned this. I guess the battle file posted on Mantis must have been the one that was received by the defender not the original. I've seen the issue where a battle file has been renamed by an email program and checked here but didn't spot the issue.

I've seen this before as well a ways back and in fact if you searched the threads, you could probably find where someone mentioned this BUT I've slept since then ???
