Gen.Hoepner -> Just got the game. Thanks (1/20/2010 11:24:53 AM)

Bought the game last week.
I've been playing FOF for 2 years now and i've found it to be th best single player wargame i've ever played - along with EagleDayBTR -. Considering that i don't have anymore the spare time i used to to play witp and witpAE in Pbem i decided to give to Western Civilization another chance to delight me and bought Crown of Glory.

Have to say that, despite i thought to find some more of the things i loved in FOF (graphics in detailed battle, weapons upgrades and other stuffs like that), this game is AMAZING! The learning curve is defenetly interesting and the depth and the complexity of variables that can occur in all those scenarios make this game a MUST-have for me.

Believe me: you're gonna have my money for all those brand new projects you're planning for this year!

When you start getting involved in the economy in a serious way, read the two economy guides.  I think both are now part of the latest install.  They simplify things a bit and clarify the manual on a few things.  I've been told that they are reasonably helpful.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Just got the game. Thanks (1/20/2010 4:10:34 PM)

Thx mate. Already read the whole manual and the two economic guides. Really helpfull. I've started since the first day to play with advanced economy and...yes, it's a bit nasty to understand but those guides really drove me in the right way and now i'm playing smooth with the whole system!

Thx

when your ready, give the path of Nappy a run, what you don't know or understand now, you will learn in a hurry there

as Nappy you got to go for the bell, no being mister nice guy

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Just got the game. Thanks (1/20/2010 5:04:06 PM)

:-) Roger that HS

To say the truth i think i've learnt already the 70% of the mechanics of the game (the 30% being the naval detail action on which i had not praticed yet playin' only with Prussia in 1792 scenario till now).
I still have to enjoy all the other scenarios (Nappy's path too) with all those major and minor countries...it's gonna be fun!
At the moment i'm already having my hard times surviving with Prussia...started in 1792...now 1804 and still Prussia isn't as big and as powerfull as it was in reality...struggling to stay alive between those 4 monsters (Sweden, France, Austria and Russia)...

Just one quick question:

I don't understand why, when at war with someone, if i conquer one of his provinces, sometimes it becomes immediately mine (with the border lines that get the colour of my country) and sometimes they remain something like "no-one's land" with both my and the loser's colours on the borders. In the latter case if i click on the province the flag shows my flag, but it doesn't appear the building button, only the diplomatic one, as if it was still in enemy's hands....

If you take an enemy province in war, you only control it-you don't own it. It will have the appropriate colored border to indicate your country controls it. Frequently, another flag will appear on top of the owning nations flag. This new flag represents a rebel state. Rebel units may even appear in the province, but they are not your enemy-unless you keep that province after the peace.

During your occupation of enemy provinces no building will progress. IIRC, no production will be added to the owning nations stocks from occupied provinces.

Should your opponent surrender and you claim an occupied province in the peace, then it will be yours to manage. All its production also is added to your national stocks.

Watch out for adding too many provinces. Waste can become ugly.

BTW, welcome to this neck of the woods.

Your two favorite games are FOF and EDtBR? Come clean now -- you've got to be Hard Sarge's sock puppet! (Hoepner is probably German for "HARD.")

But seriously, thank you for your comments. Great to see!

Spindry -> RE: Just got the game. Thanks (1/21/2010 6:28:45 AM)

Hi, I thought i'd post here since i'm a new player too. I was looking for something a little deeper recently and heard about COG EE. The fact that you gain horses from battles intrigued me enough to purchase it. Wow, I don't think iv'e played anything this detailed... ever. I'm still trying to get a handle on the advanced economy. I really like that the A.I can really give you a challenge, iv'e been hard pressed fighting two nations then a third declares war on me. Oh Gawd! Good stuff.

Just a couple of wishes for the next patch. These have been requested before, battle results shown after instant battles and the ability to save before battles (handy if you play battles at Divison level and have a few battles in one turn). Oh, also a high resolution interface would look nice on my 26" monitor with lots of lavish period art and a nice 3d battle resolution. O'k that last one was more of a pipe dream.. though if I had the money I would have no problem parting with it to see this happen. Thanks guys, this is going to keep me occupied for a long time!

You have taken two different types of provinces then :)
*The ones with a complete line around them is a national province, and will NOT change hands during war, they will only be occupied.
*The ones with a dotted line around them is a protectorate province, and they WILL change hands during war. If you conquer such a province, you will immediately gain it as one of your provinces.

Just to let you know....few more days of hard playing...1809 now...Prussia has created a strong Anti-British  coalition with France, Spain,Turkey and Sweden. Austria and Russia are almost neutralized....it's simply a great game! Having lots of fun here!

Have no time for that...i've already lost my life on pbems back in those days of WitP...i know myself...unfortunately i'm not able not to dive completely on the match...so destroying my social life (=girls) (which is already at risk due to my job)...so...for the moment...only single player [;)]

Anyway, i started back again another scenario cause it was becoming too easy with prussia once you beat France and Austria...now i took Portugal 1805...Thrilling! I'm fighting not to win...just to stay alive...already surrendered once to Spain...and now facing the French invasion...France has conquered the whole Europe...her armies arrived up to conquer Moscow...wow!
