Lützow -> Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/20/2010 6:20:51 PM)

Paradox 3rd party title, due in Q1 2010, comparing itself with Close Combat and Combat Mission. No clue it can live up to this standard, but at least soldiers are linked to squads here. There is also a (russsian language) demo available.

Alan Sharif -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/20/2010 10:07:10 PM)

There Kharkov 42 was a good title, different engine I belive, but a good title. I will be buying this for sure.

gunny -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/21/2010 12:38:48 AM)

Looks good. But everyone keeps asking the same question about building occupation, Yes or no.

bairdlander2 -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/21/2010 12:45:43 AM)

Screenshots look like a fps,with the ability to command from afar or jump into an individual soldiers boots.Hope this doesnt become another bash PI thread [:D][:D] with most of the bashers never playing 1 PI title.[:D][:D]

GoodGuy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/21/2010 12:59:19 AM)

I just checked out Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 on their site.

A preview from Tim Stone:

quote:

"In between bouts of confusion, I’ve witnessed my gallant Ivans Molotov passing halftracks, flee warehouses set ablaze by flammpanzers, and perish under the tracks of predatory Pz. IIIs. More significantly, I’ve been able to fiddle with an intriguing turn-based ops layer that looks certain to give Front Roads skirmishes rare rootedness. However skilled a scenario author and well-paced a campaign sequence, nothing beats the thrill of the unforeseen unintended engagement.

Is this the same game?
If so, it sounds like some buildings can be occupied, no?
Is this real-time or turn-based?

Lützow -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/21/2010 8:51:54 AM)

There is no English demo as yet. So I peaked into the Russian one but didn't understand much for sure. Kharkov has some kind of strategic layer with several screens, where you obviously can choose troops and locations - reminded me a bit to CC4 / CC5. Afterwards you got thrown onto the battlefield. The game plays in pausable realtime (1x, 2x, 4x), animations are rather mediocre and visuals inferior to Theatre of War, but you have linked squads and don't need to babysit every single soldier. Missed a soldier monitor though or at least couldn't find one.

Unfortunately nobody bothered to translate the Russian .pdf demo manual and Google also refused to do this.

wodin -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/22/2010 6:56:07 PM)

Great tank sim. A few mods out there for it to add more playable tanks.

Its one that stays on my hard drive.

Peter Fisla -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/22/2010 10:25:04 PM)

Steel Fury 1942 is an outstanding WW2 tank sim...feels more like a real WW2 war simulator. I get the feeling that my tank is part of the overall battle...I'm not the center of it, just another piece of puzzle - I really like that! I just got it 5 days ago and I have been playing since then non-stop and considering that there never was an official patch for the game I never got a single CTD or crash. There are 5 unofficial patches (add-ons/mods really) that add few things in the game. I got it from Gamers Gate and no DRM!!! It's a rock solid WW2 simulation...I'm in love. The Kharkov 1943 is a strategy game done by different development team but I think still by the same development company. I'm looking forward to the 1943 strategy game considering that I won't be getting Battlefront's Kursk game due to their crappy eLicense DRM.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/22/2010 11:37:22 PM)

I gave up on it when in the tutorial my tank decided to stop part way up a hill....couldn't get it up the hill...nothing...tried reversing and going up again...tried low gear...tried a run up...tried reversing up...nothing...couldn't get up, so shelved it.

That's easy...switch to commander's view (F3) and then simply press "W" key the driver will do the rest. You have to realize these tanks are WW2 so you need to be a bit more gentle with them. The driver will listen to your command so there isn't really need to be the driver yourself...unless the tank gets hit and the driver is KIA. To stop the tank press "q" to turn the vehicle left press "a" and to turn right press "d".

I had some issues with the tutorials as well but you don't really need to play them. Just look at the key chart and that's all you need to know.

freeboy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/23/2010 4:45:20 PM)

I am interested in this title, and wonde rhow it will compare to the tow2 series that is releasing Kursk stand alone, projected fora  feb rlease date.
I did not get tow2 after the demo had tanks scaling cliffs, although this was probably a reality setting thing, just did not grab me.. I would love a remake of the battle from Normandy the Combat Mission had.. anyone see anything else on the market or horizon they would recommend?

Alan Sharif -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/23/2010 10:15:50 PM)

Kharkov 42 is the best tank sim on the market, imo, and well worth investigating.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/23/2010 10:38:37 PM)

Down loading it now. Hope its worth it.

freeboy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/23/2010 11:14:59 PM)

let us know what you think, I guess there are a bunch of unofficial mods/patches that you can access as well.. see the folks at simhq as well.. and the let us all know..
With TOW2 kursk and Steal Fury 43 kursk both coming out I am having a hard time buying a beautiful, but perhaps buggy karkow 42...

Hartford688 -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 8:04:03 AM)

Steel Fury 42 is a tank sim, whereas TOW2 and Kharkov 43 are closer to RTS strategy (though aiming for far more realism than your average RTS). Not wholly comparable...

freeboy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 3:54:40 PM)

ok, please explain the difference? u only get one vehicle in SF42? not clear at all
thanks

freeboy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 3:55:31 PM)

And another thought, any idea what is up with Karko 43 and the other titles in Grivitgrames site?[:D]

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 4:21:44 PM)

I can see why you had problems. Getting the controls down in this game can be time consuming and don't seem to work. The keys say hit -control f3 to move to the commandes position. But a no go. Trying changing this in options but doesnt seem to work.

Apologies. Yes you are in one tank, though IIRC you can order your platoon about as well. But the key part is that you are the the tank crew, and can move to gunner station, driver station etc.

The other two are your top down control the whole force as overall commander games...no looking down gunsights.

freeboy -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 5:18:59 PM)

yep, the other two are more my speed thanks

I may be wrong, but I believe it is just "F3" to move to the Commander's position. I think the CTRL-F3 is to move to the position if the commander is dead (you have to move the body).

Also...if you are in a T34/76 - there is not a separate commander position...the gunner is the commander, so moving between them has no effect.

It is a very good game/sim, but is not immediately accessible, lots of commands, and the realism can make some simple things more complex (i.e. JD's problems driving up a steep incline in an underpowered Matilda)

My problem with games like this then are not realism. If the underpowered Matilda finds it nigh impossible to get up a steep incline, don't give it to me in the bloody tutorial. I didn't get past the tutorial because of this and it was precisely because I couldn't get past the tutorial I wasted £25.

If you're going to make a tutorial, then make it easy/fun/enjoyable whilst at the same time being informative. Don't make it impossible and put the user off right away! What a dumb idea. [:-]

Fair comment. [:)]

But it was informative...tanks powered by two bus engines welded together only work on the flat.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (1/24/2010 8:53:06 PM)

Thanks for the feedback. I did try f3 and cotrl-f3. But I think, maybe I was in a T-34. Ill see how that works. Thanks again Hartford[;)]
