davidss -> TLD - sound #2 playing? (1/22/2010 4:10:13 PM)

Hi,
I was doing some sound editing and noticed the #2 sound (Arty Explosion/Naval Artillery) doesn't seem to be used when a Naval artillery strike is underway. It seems to be using other explosion sounds ... or at least not exclusively #2.

any info on this ...

Game sounds used by the .exe are hard coded. The game will use the sound index number it has been coded to, be that a boom, bang, bird chirps or Viagra Infomercial sound bite. All dependent on the Sounds.sfx index number. Only the programmer would know for sure which of the sounds in the .sfx are used for every situation and occasion.

There are several sounds within the .sfx that are game sounds used for AI effects. It is probable that the game uses more than one sound bite out of the .sfx for the same in-game sounds. Use the TLD Workbook to help find those that are game AI specific (not normally applied to player initated fires).

Hi Senior Drill,
Sure would be good to know the above. I've messed around trying to figure out which explosions sounds are used for certain events ... such as naval, arty, mortars, vehicles and buildings being hit, etc. I think the mortars use the same couple of sounds, while the other events use a random pick from 5 (or so) sound files.
I noticed seeing the #2 sound (listed in the workbook)as "Arty Explosion/Naval Artillery" ... but the specific sound I made for it did not play. I ended up just adding the sound to one of the random explosion sounds that are used for the naval barrage. Seems to work OK now. I had to tone it down a bit though, since it will also play randomly in other explosion events.
Maybe you can somehow get that secret programmers info [;)] [:D]

Thanks again
