just curious who / how many players are still active in this game... Interesting would be also to know if against AI or PBEM.

I play all the time - pbem and AI.  Scenario 17 and 19.

I still play UV AI, but more and more I prefer to play WiTP.

I play the 'Canal scenario, but now in AE.

I still have UV installed, but my hopes for CF have diminished.

I'm playing hotseat to try out different strategies.

It would be great if the developer(s) would offer a Med version of this game. Convoy runs to Malta, Swordfish attack on Taranto, possible Vichy intervention, fun, fun, fun.

Nice idea, would be awesome indeed! Think on North Sea / Atlantic scenarios too, with Royal Navy, USN and Soviet forces against the Axis powers. But I fear there is nothing in the pipe anymore. Even CF seems to be dead finally - what a bummer. Very disappointing.

CF's dead before it really starts? Please not.
This could be the first wargame ever to impelment realistic handling of carrier planes.
This must be highly complex. US CVs using permanent deck park. How does this influence
Flight operations? How to operate CAP and assemble an Airstrike. Hundreds how-tos.
Carrier Operations are much more complex thn setting Fighters on Escort/CAP %,
Naval Earch/attack % etc. In detail, i still don't understand how this worked in reality.

And, even if here are many many experts, i think this is true for most of us.

i play the US and try to not play "sir robin" against him.[;)]

an UV like game about the war in MED or north atlantic (maybe a scenario with graf zepelin as german CV?) would be very nice. i totaly agree here.

I play against the AI. All in all to me its just as good as Admirals Edition which I've spent quite abit of time playing.   AE has many bells and whistles that are fantastic tools but I believe in the effort to balance the game Japanese capabilities have been ramped up too much to make the game more like chess than reality.

Issues with AE I have are-

Japanese subs especially the boats with float planes that never seem to have a mechanical issue are overpowered.
Japanese ASW.
Japanese pilot training is much too fast . [If the training program doesn't make the Japanese suffer as they did historically , then the game is no good at all to me considering how many planes Japanese industry can produce. My opponent when I was playing PBEM told me he was building 100 Oscars a month.
US CVs don't get enough planes to use as replacements in '42.
From what I see Kamikazees cause too much damage and too many get through.
Game killer bug as far as PBEM goes - see invading Pearl thread in the AE forum. <FWIW this seems to be rectified with the latest beta patch as coast defense units have been ticked up and targeting transports as well as larger warships[CA/CL variety in my tests]

Ae is interesting, but just too big. I have 4 UV games going, and from what I am told it takes half the time to run all 4 as one game of AE. One day I may wake up and finally buy it though

I love the history of the South Pacific campaign, so I've been playing the full campaign routinely. It's a great game, I love the detail and it's accuracy. I'm considering making the jump to WitP-AE, but I've used UV as a training ground. Plus, I don't generally like sitting around waiting for a turn to process through.

I am the type of gamer who will get drawn into one game for a while and play it almost exclusively for weeks (or months) until some other game catches my attention, and I switch over to playing that game for a while. I have owned Uncommon Valor for a few years and played it a bit during that time, but right now I seem to be in an "Uncommon Valor mode", and am playing it a lot at the moment. I expect that I will eventually buy War in the Pacific, Admiral's Edition, but for now Uncommon Valor seems to be the right mixture of realistic detail and reasonably sized, highly playable, scenarios

I recently bought UV after growing tired of AE.
I am currently playing one game vs. AI
In AE, I am playing one PBEM game but it is the Guadalcanal scenario.
Thinking of firing up a GC in vanilla WITP once the UV game is done.
And will also solicit a PBEM game in either UV or vanilla WITP or both.

Having just come out of a year long AE game, UV is a nice change of pace. Sure it still has plenty of bugs and gameplay glitches, but overall it is still a very playable game.

Forget playing against the AI, its like playing a five year old.

That's a LOOOOONG game. PBEM?

I haven't the patience for a long PBEM game. I want to get in a scenario and I just get in the weeds. I'll knock out a month of scenario time in one sitting. TCP/IP gaming would be cool, for sure.

actually, with UV, if you have two people online at the same time, exchanging files goes very quickly. The only real delay is downloading the files and if the other player is away from his computer for a while. I have had situations where if both players are around you can knock out a week of turns in a few hours. a PBEM game can take a long time to finish, but if you like playing the AI, you will love playing a real person.

I purchased UV when first released but never really played it. I was too busy at the time and just couldn't motivate myself to climb what at the time seemed to be its fairly steep learning curve.

After years of holding back, I finally purchased WITP:AE last summer. It is a fantastic game, my current favorite, and I foresee playing it for years and years to come ...

... but for now, only the scenarios. I simply don't have the time (too many other responsibilities) to play the campaigns. (I anticipate tackling the GC when I retire a few years hence.)

Over the Christmas break, I have put together a "retro" gaming machine for all of my low-system-requirement HPS and Matrix games. Earlier today, I installed Uncommon Valor too.

After looking around a bit--and seeing that it is much less involved than, but still similar to, WITP:AE--I am encouraged to give UV a try. After learning the WITP:AE system, UV looks much easier in comparison.

Most importantly, it has scenarios. WITP:AE scenarios are beginning to appear, and I will continue to play(test) them. But UV is chock full of ready-to-run scenarios in the War's most interesting theater, the Southwest Pacific.

If nothing else, I see UV replacing TOAW as my preferred operational Pacific War gaming platform. With its land combat emphasis and stunted air and (especially) sea war modules, TOAW just doesn't model WWII in the Pacific very well. No doubt UV has its problems and limitations (and if they loom too large, there will always be WITP:AE). But for fast scenario operational game play, UV's ship has finally arrived.

PBEM? Nope. I'll play against the AI. And if and when I grow disillusioned with that, I will try hot-seat solitaire. For me, competitive gaming doesn't matter; historical simulation's the thing.

I have had this game on the shelf for about a year, I had made a clean install of my OS system over Christmas to get rid of allot of junk. I loved WITP and played Crown of Glory but I did not like the new Crown of Glory EE. So I thought 'let me try this old game'. Love it, 2.5v with added map, ship art, cloud mods and the game rocks. The turn cycle is quick and the AI is much better at the smaller South Pacific theater of war, than the whole Pacific. This game is a nice break from playing MTW2 mods.
