To summarize from here and other threads: Ideal ASW TF Operation includes TF operatiing under search arc of an Airgroup on Naval Search and an Airgroup on ASW - ASW TF
- 2 - 4 Ships with ASW capability
- TF Commander is appointed (not a ship captain)
- TF Commander with Surface Skill > 60
- No Ship Captains with poor surface skill
- Flagship has high speed, high ASW rating, high experience day/night (note - A small craft ASW TF does best when it has a DD or an experienced, well lead, and well armed DM, DMS, AVD, or DE as the flagship when possible)
- Airgroup(s) on Naval Search
- 6,000 ft
- Airgroup Commander has reasonably good Inspiration (keeps morale up and planes flying)
- Airgroup(s) on ASW Patrol
- 2,000 ft
- Aircraft that carry heavier bomb loads
- Airgroup Commander has reasonably good Inspiration (keeps morale up and planes flying)
Run your ASW ops in and around Choke Points where your convoys have to go. Use Waypoints to vary routings in the wide open spaces and use ASW Airgroups on patrol to detect in those areas Remember... The principle objective of ASW patrol is to keep the enemy submarines from killing your ships. If, while doing that, you can sink enemy submarines then all the better!
