carnifex -> No airframe replacements question (2/3/2010 1:27:02 AM)

Where are the US Marine and Indian (and some other nations) airframe replacements coming from? I have squadrons on the board and in the reinforcement schedule, but no airframes coming in.

Do I disband the incoming squadrons into depleted units?

And there are two squadrons on CVs that belong to the USMC. First of all whaaaa? Second of all so disbanding into them the only to refill?

Just a guess on #1 but I think that the airframes for the USMC would show under USN & Indian would be Brit

On #2, those 2 squadrons were being transported historically at the start of the war to Midway & forget the other forward base, Wake maybe??? It's best to transfer them off to land as soon as you can.

Johnsons a good bet for that imo.

Ok I got the transported USMC planes off the carriers, but my question remains. How come the USMC is the only US branch that doesn't have any replacement airframes? If they draw from the USN where is that stated?

jcjordan -> RE: No airframe replacements question (2/3/2010 11:25:20 PM)

A dev may can give a better detailed explanation but the USMC a/c types are naval type a/c where a/c served in both forces ie Avengers, Buffalos, Dauntless, Wildcats, Hellcats, Helldivers & Corsairs served both USN & USMC sqdns & there's not a finer distinction of planes as there is to pilots as to nationalities. The French, CW, Ind & Brit all use Brit types. The Aussies, Can & NZ have their own replacements but could just as easily be lumped in w/ Brit as they all used the same types w/ some exceptions. The Phil use US Army types for the short period they're in the game.

Well instead of a dev how about someone who played the Allied side? Where do you get your replacements for the USMC? Are they drawn from the USN pool?

Dobey455 -> RE: No airframe replacements question (2/4/2010 4:42:51 PM)

As stated above, Yes they are from the USN pool.

I believe that the reason that pools for the French, Indian, USMC etc are listed seperately is that they allow a player to edit in sperate pools for a player made mod, if they so wish.

witpqs -> RE: No airframe replacements question (2/4/2010 4:52:24 PM)

USMC planes are from the USN pool. That was real life, too.

Important to realize that it is not set by nationality, it is set by squadron (what plane it's using), so making it be realistic was a lot of extra work for the developers. You will eventually find, for example, at least one squadron (IIRC it's Australian, but maybe USA?) that uses some left-over Dutch bombers. These things happened in real life There are a number of such examples.

The 'nationality' of the air unit is not necessarily the same as who supplied the airframes.

BTW, USMC squadrons served on USN CV's plenty, especially Corsair squadrons later in the war. Putting some of those 'carrier capable' USMC planes on carriers early to increase defense or offensive punch is fine. You will probably see more ops losses. Also, in general, the pilots are less well-trained and less experienced than USN pilots.

bradfordkay -> RE: No airframe replacements question (2/4/2010 4:54:22 PM)

IRL the USN collected F4Fs from the Marine squadrons at San Diego to take to Hawaii in order to fill out the carrier squadrons in Dec '41-Jan '42, so it is almost a requirement to make the USN/USMC aircraft pool a combined one.

Excellent! One less worry, thanks for the replies :)
