Hello all,
Just trying to wrap my head around this massive game. According to the rulebook, it says there is a "tutorial" for those who want to dive right in. Im looking around the game folder and Im not seeing it. Where is it and what would the file say? Any advice on how to learn this game for a newbie? Thanks kirk

welcome to the game.

You can download from scenarios in the forum any number of small scenarios or you can try one of the presets from the game package. Allies tend to be easier to learn with if you do campaign, since they dont have production.

Goto the forum and download the WITP Tracker. Spend time learning it. Concerning what to do, I would try to play about 1 month of any game and try as many tactics as possible. Keep the rules book handy and read it often as a reference. There is no easy way around getting your teeth busted in at the start. If you choose the campaign concentrate on one theater primarily in your first effort...say Hawaii if you are allies and DEI if you are Japs.

I'd brush up on the history tactics and results behind what you are going to play as a helper too. You will learn quickly. After you have a game month of turns under your belt, restart again. It will begin to make sense.

Save turns in different slots so you can replay them with different orders. Dont hesitate to do this to better understand how orders like attack altitude, reaction range, and patrol can change outcomes.

And of course remember to have fun!!

One more thing. I think you can set players to 0 and see the computer play both sides. That may help you.

I saw the "tutorial" in the manual as well. I asked Matrix and apprently it is still being worked on. In the meantime, the above suggestions are all good ones.

When I started I would save every turn twice.. Once before I did any programming and the second time once all my programming was in place. I found that some orders can not easily be un-done (such as changing a leader or a HQ for a unit) and sometimes I had to go back and start from the beginning of the turn as opposed to just before hitting "end orders".

I would also recomend spending a lot of time reading in the forum (there is a lot of good information here). Also, check out the following link:

This was helpful for me...
