DSandberg -> Troop transport planes that won't ... (7/6/2002 12:52:32 PM)

The following has happened twice to me now in exactly the same way. I don't have a save game that shows it, unfortunately, as I got so frustrated the second time it happened that I uninstalled UV. :( I hope another patch will address this along with the ultra-effective B17 naval attacks and other issues, so that I can install the game again.

In scenario #1 (Coral Sea), I moved all Dakota transport planes to Brisbane and used them to ferry the replacement base force to Townsville. This went fine ... after two turns everything except for two radar sets had been transported (I assume the radars are too big for air transport). So on the next turn I transferred all four Dakota airgroups to Townsville and ordered them to carry the base force to Port Moresby. I did this by calling up one of them, selecting "troop transport", the base force in question, selecting PM as the destination, and then clicked on "assign all Dakotas in this hex". Looking through them afterwards confirms that all four groups of Dakotas had these orders.

Problem is, after clicking on "End Turn", all four groups of Dakotas ferried supply to PM, no troops. Sure enough, when I checked the orders of the four Dakota groups the next turn, they were all reset to "supply transport" ... and meanwhile the base force was still sitting on its thumbs in Townsville.

As said earlier, this has happened twice to me, in precisely the same scenerio and after the same orders and events.

Hi,

please send a zipped (very important) version of the save game file to erikr@matrixgames.com along with a detailed description of the problem for the programmer.

I've seen this happen, and I think I know why.

The force getting transported will have all but that part of the unit that is now attritioned away transported. During the turn processing, some of the base force that was attritioned will be replaced, but this occurs after the unit being air transported was in fact air transported all the way down to parts of it that didn't exist yet, with the result that there appears to be some of the base force sitting there when it should have been transported.

Something like this :

Start of turn :
Base Force X
150 AS Support
30 Eng
60 Support

Attrition phase

8 / 142 AS Support
2 / 28 Eng
3 / 57 Support

Air Transport Phase

All but the parts that are attritted get transported. However, it may also be that some parts of the unit are lost because a transporting plane was lost.

Seeing that the entire active part of the unit has been transported, the Dakotas automatically switch to supply transport.

Replacement Phase

Now, Base Force X gets replaced, so those attritted or lost parts are now replaced, so Base Force X at originating hex has

8 AS Support
2 Eng
3 Support

The Dakotas switched to supply transport after they got the active parts of the unit, then the unit was replaced at the originating hex.

I've had the same thing happen. I have a small remnant (60 spt I think) designated 1/112 Base Force stuck at Brisbane. Repeated attempts to transport it to its larger parent have all failed. So I just left it.
