The regiments first fire fight is one of the best Civil War battle scenes I've seen.

Aye, that scene is good, and so is the rest of the movie, despite the obvious Hollywood atmosphere. I don't know why, but somehow it works despite the heavy-handed use of cliché and stereotypes...

I think Killroyishere is right - you might be thinking about Zulu Dawn and whilst I agree it took a while to get to the action the film was also an awesome film

Well it's possible.  It was an old film, looked like from the early 60's.  By the time any action FINALLY started, I was the only one left in the room by that point.  Though I wouldn't say I found it an awesome film by any stretch of the imagination, so I guess that can't be it either.  To sum things up, a bunch of red-coats with rifles being attacked by the Zulu.  If you can wait LONG enough for it, that is.

Reds are victorious at the end and the silly Zulu leave after losing hundreds of warriors to a small group of Britts.

Oh well, we're starting to get off topic here...

I can see now why Judge had a problem with Broderick, lol. It's almost like he doesn't fit in that movie....
On the other hand, he acts and looks so much like a "greenhorn", his acting is actually believable, as he plays an officer who doesn't have any combat experience and who commands a group of soldiers that yet has to prove that it can achieve something.

I just would have loved to see whether the white regiments (which were supposed to follow Shaw's unit) really attacked afterwards or whether they just used Shaws unit as "probe" and maintained the siege. [:D]

Well, apart from the fact you thought a great film was boring, I believe it is Zulu you are talking about. If you thought that was slow, you should've watched Zulu Dawn (or maybe not!!). I thought it was a great movie, showing good old British stiff upper lip arrogance in the face of a measly enemy (when has that ever happened since?? [;)]), but it did take a while to get to the battle.

The Zulu (around 15,000-20,000 strong) were victorious against the Brits (and others - between 1500-2000 strong) in the film Zulu Dawn (Battle of Isandlwana). The Brits (about 150?) were victorius against over 4000 Zulu in the film Zulu (Battle of Rorke's Drift). Both outstanding movies and portrayed the battles very impressivley I thought. Would love a remake but shudder to think what Hollywood would do to them!

Well, just to get my list in, I think all of my favorites have been mentioned here already (strictly speadking of ACW movies):

1 Gettysburg
2 Horse Soldiers
3 Glory
4 Gods and Generals

Thanks
Rick

Thanks everyone for your feedbck, after hearing some of your titles I had to go back and re-update my post on what I have seen:) Forgot about some of these. I just received Wicked Spring in the mail today, so hopefully will watch this weekend.

Well, got a chance to watch Wicked Springs tonight. It was a decent movie and certainly worth watching once, but for me probably towards the bottom of my listed Civil War movies. Had some good battle scenes and a reasonable storyline, just not enough to be in the top of my favorites. Don't regret buying it, since at least worth the one-time viewing.

It would be just amazing if AKM has a plane companion and roomie to help keep the expenses down. And there are a lot of fans of both bloggers who will be thrilled to include her in the emerging mudstock in Pittsburg!____________________________________________________

Seriously: This is the only site I know of where spambots can post on existing threads (most other sites they just start new ones, which makes them a little easier to spot). Any idea why that is? It's really quite irritating.

I've seen it happening more and more often on other sites, too. They seek out specific word patterns now to try to 'fit in' better with a conversation.

this spambots post in the "best matrix ww2 game" thread is a copy/paste of a post in "Time of Wrath" forum I think. The only online service i buy from is Digital River. How secure is this and how secure is Digital River?Never any problems before.

Keep in mind that Digital River is a completely separate entity from Matrix Games. I don't think spam issues here would mean anything over there.

The Hundley with Armand Asante playing Lt. George Dixon is pretty good.

Grim.Reaper -> RE: American Civil War Movies - What are everybody's favorites? (2/27/2010 11:03:11 PM)

After seeing some people mention the movie Ride with the Devil, I went ahead and gave that movie a look. Defintely more of a drama versus a lot of civil war battle scenes, but was watchable. Certainly, worth one watching, but unlike Gettysburg and some of the others I have seen where I could watch them a million times:)
