enric_herrera -> Windows 7 (direcX 11) display erratic colors (2/15/2010 5:42:57 PM)

Recently I updated to Windows 7 and SPWW seems to have a palette problem.
The graphics, text, background have strange colors.
Tried to star with every combination of compatibilities: Win Xp pack2, pack3, Win 98, 256 colors, ....

Reinstalled, tested 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 8.403, enhanced or not, always same problem.
Sound is ok, game seems to work, but display make not playable.

Using RADEON X600 card

Any one is having a similar problem?
Any help...

Yup, I have the same exact problem.
The only known fix I know of is to play the game in windowed mode with this program.

Here is a tutorial: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2162408
Playing this way is annoying though, due to the choppy-ness when scrolling in-game. But I guess its better than a psychedelic color pallete.
Good luck.

D3Dwindowed works for 800x600 other resolution make graphic and text bizarre.
This is a very small windows on actual monitors.
The solution I found is is a very annoying one: change the resolution monitor to 800x600, play mech.exe, and recover the original resolution after playing.

i had the same problem so i tried running the game from virtual XP mode and i can't play at all doing that. spwaw.exe crashes when i try to run it through the game menu. is anyone playing in XP mode on windows 7 successfully?

Try running it from the mech.exe

That bypasses the intro videos that may be the problem.

enric_herrera -> RE: Windows 7 (direcX 11) display erratic colors (3/16/2010 8:20:26 AM)

run mech.exe directly, sometimes the color palette loads erratic, then quit and relaunch mech.exe again, do it several times until you get the right palette.

I observed that if I left the window screen resolution open(right click on the desktop) mech.exe run often with the right palette (that's esoteric...)

Fallschirmjager -> RE: Windows 7 (direcX 11) display erratic colors (4/28/2010 5:10:48 AM)

I just installed the game after about a year of not playing on my new Windows 7 computer and get this problem. Nothing works, no matter what I use to launch the game or how many times I try.
I use a Nvidia 295

enric_herrera -> RE: Windows 7 (direcX 11) display erratic colors (4/28/2010 7:26:08 AM)

I have in of mex.exe:
Execute compatible Windows98/Me
Disable desktop...
Disable scale screen
(the last two checkboxes).

To begin the game, I open the screen resolution window and double click on an alias of mech.exe that I've on the desktop.
Many times the mech.exe runs and the screen becomes all black, but moving the cursor is like painting and the black disapears and the first screen of SPWW appears on the backgroung.
If the screen underneath the black has the right color palette go on, if not, quit and lunch again.
That's all I can say.

The fix in http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2452605 mostly works. You still get some wonkiness. and it's still a workaround, but it works better than any other option available at the moment.
