WLockard -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 8:18:46 PM)

I wonder if some of you having problems and have Windows 7 might have to download and install Directx 9.0?

aciddrinker -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/19/2010 10:21:23 AM)

Dx 10+ have all libaries of DX 9.0

I had the same problem in 32-bit Windows 7. I solved it by re-creating the shortcut to the exe file and re-editing the command line. Now it works exactly as advertised. Nice touch. Now tell me where me where I can get new eyes. At 1920x1080 there's a lot of detail to see.

I too tried everything (updating drivers, editing shortcuts, CAREFULLY editing shortcuts, etc), and finally after all else failed....this worked. Unbelievable. It seems completely insane that editing the existing shortcut wouldn't work. To all appearances I have two identical shortcuts on my desktop, yet only the new one provides widescreen support. Halsey -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/21/2010 8:29:23 PM)

I've noticed on some patches and updates, the desktop shortcut is not updated.

Everyone should probably create a new shortcut from the main game folder every time you update the game.

Kung Sune -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/22/2010 5:52:54 PM)

I believe I have tried everything suggested here, but I am still unsuccessful in getting widescreen working. I have Windows7 and NVIDIA 9600GT. I don't believe I am doing anything wrong since I can get it working beautifully (1920x1080) on my old computer with WindowsXP and Radeon X850. Any suggestions?

I'm waiting for the next patch.
The developers announced that the support for different machines will be better.

Kung Sune -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/22/2010 7:18:17 PM)

Thanks, I will do so. It also failed on a laptop with Windows7 and NVIDIA GT 240M.

McSeem -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/24/2010 11:28:10 AM)

Tried many options and combinations.
It works on my NVidia Quadro with two 1600x1200 monitors (dualview)
Command line is  -w -px1280 -py1024 -SingleCpuOrders (-w must be before -px/-py)
Drivers are very old [8|]
But doesn't work with -px1400 -py1050 or -px1280 -py1050 [&:]

Rodwen67 -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/24/2010 6:43:46 PM)

Hello , is it possible to allow wide screen for laptops with a resolution of 1280*720, and thus decrease the py limitation ?

The reason is that my screen supports a 1920*1080 resolution but it is too difficult for my eyes to play with this mode.

Halsey -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/24/2010 8:34:09 PM)

I don't think you can go below 768.
If you do, it reverts back to 1024x768 on it's own.

Apparently not, a common fix for many older games in Win 7 is to reinstall DX 9.0c, not all libraries are in DX11 in Win 7.

Have you tried 1600x900? That's a little easier on the eyes for me.

Rodwen67 -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/25/2010 11:38:48 AM)

No, my sony Vaio allows only 2 resolutions : 1920*1080 or 1280*720.

I've tried to launch the game with 1600*900, but the game don't swith to wide screen.

ChickenOfTheSea -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/25/2010 3:56:37 PM)

Did you remember the zero (-py0900)?

Rodwen67 -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/25/2010 4:43:41 PM)

No, I am using this shortcut command : "I:\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1600 -py0900 -cpu2 -dd_sw -deepcolor -altfonts

But I have 2 bands surrounding my game.

PaulWRoberts -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/27/2010 6:35:51 PM)

Just to clarify: Is it true that those of us with 1366x768 laptops (like my Dell Inspiron 1545) won't be able to use widescreen because it will default to 1024x768?

Have you tried it with spanning with a resolution of 3200x1200? I know the code doesn't support that, but I was wondering if you had tried it and what your results were. In my test for spanning mode, the east most portion of the map never showed up as well as the jump map or the animations.

Tried just now.
Result - fullscreen 1024x768 in left monitor [:(]
command line - "D:\Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px3200 -py1200

Graycompany -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (3/3/2010 5:44:43 PM)

I have the Same Question. I have a dell Studio XPS and since i have upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, I cannnot get the Game to run full screen. I have not updated the patch, but previous, under Vista the game ran full screen. I have tried adjusting the settings. Can anyone help on what it is I should do, or if I am to copy and paste something, what and where should I paste it?

Well, can't believe it.

Thank you thank you thank you ChickenOfTheSea.

I had tried everything. Tried params for Full Screen, Windowed, eliminating parms but the -x and -y. Nothing.
In the end, tried ChickenOfTheSea's idea of recreating the Shortcut.

Have absolutely no idea why, but it worked. Now I have Widescreen on Fullscreen and Windowed.

I don't get it, but right now, I don't care..... IT WORKS.

Recreating the shortcut worked for me. I don't understand why. I looked at the old shortcut and it was pointing to the right exe and everything was the same. Nevertheless I manually recreated the shortcut and it worked. Sigh.

I have no idea why either, but it is something I have done with coding for years. If a line of code doesn't work and after staring at it for a while you can't see why it doesn't work, just retype the line. Sometimes that fixes it. I could see no reason why my shortcut wasn't working so I just recreated it and it worked.

michaelm75au -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (3/4/2010 10:01:39 AM)

What I find is that there may be a CNTL- or ALT- character embedded somewhere on the line. These characters generally don't show up as a printable character and thus don't take up any space on the line.

I often have this same problem at work when keying in long strings of numbers. Hit the CNTL key by accident and don't realise it until I hex dump the string.

I've been following this thread for a while now and am totally confused. Mind you I'm not an IT technocrat I just play the games. I work and play off my wide screen laptop HP1628 17inch. When hooked up to my monitor in work the game plays beautifully in full screen. However like others I just cannot shift it to full screen on the laptop (stand alone) and its driving me round the bend and doing my eyes no good either when playing in the evening at home. What confuses me is where i need to put these stitches px py etc as mentioned by previous mailers. Any plain english help here would be much appreciated before i moth ball this otherwise brilliant game.

loyalcitizen -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (3/4/2010 4:35:55 PM)

If you are having problems, make sure you don't copy-paste the command line from the read-me. In it, the dashes are too long. I brought this to their attention as soon as the beta released, yet they did not change it. Odd. Would have taken all of 2 seconds to fix and could have saved a few people several hours of frustration.

dunk -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (3/4/2010 8:49:43 PM)

Just for the record 2560x1600 (fullscreen) works.

On your desktop there is a shortcut to the WitP AE Exe...if you right click on the shortcut and then click Properties you will see an entry for Target....you will see something similar to

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe"

After the .exe add in the command prompts -px#### -py####

#### has to be four digits and in a combination that your monitor can support....which can be found by looking at your display settings for your desktop....which can be found in the area where you set your screensvaer, desktop background etc

Fletcher -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (3/5/2010 2:48:05 PM)

Hi there !
The same problem with me with a HP Pavillion dv6 with windows 7 x64 bits with a NVIDIA G105M, the standard screen resolution in my desktop is 1366x678. I have created a new shortcut from WITP AE main folder with the following text line:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1366 -py0768 -SingleCpuOrders -cpu2 -multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor

Don´t works with this and others -px -py options, probably I would not be able to change widescreen resolution with my -py0768, but I ´m not sure.
Thanks in advance for any advice ! :)
Best of wishes
Ramón

As relleased it is my understanding the your use of 768 cause the settings to revert to 1024x768.

It is my understanding that a change is in the works that will allow people with 1366 x768 widescreens to use that setting...MichaelM or BigJ can comment further.
