Nux Mortis -> Possibility of getting widescreen on 1366x768 (2/19/2010 9:44:32 AM)

The quote below is from the public beta thread: unfortunately widescreen seems not to work with 1366x768 as px AND py have to be greater than 1024x768.

So, could a dev please tell us, if it will be possible to get widescreen support in that resolution in the final patch perhaps? Or will the 15.6 laptop users be out of luck definitely?

Thank you

Unfortunately I just canīt get -px1366 -py0768 to work, windowed or not. Is there someone who had luck with this resolution?

Devs have mentioned that x must be greater than 1024 AND y must be greater than 768, or it will still default to 1024x768.

Oh no, no widescreensupport then on my 15.6 laptop? Thatīs bad news, I was so excited about this new feature.

Is this confirmed? No widescreen for a 1366 x 768 native laptop? [:(]

Hear the crickets do you? Well get use to it cause there is not much in the way of developers around any more. I wonder why?

Nux, off hand, I would guess that it may be because the 1366x768 resolution has not been that commonly used until recently (and on non-desktop systems).

Most coding generally requires a bit of effort to properly "resize" objects for display in other resolutions. If they are simply "scaled" to a new resolution then the objects can appear distorted. Therefore, it is likely that each resolution supported requires a lot of work to ensure that the details are both visually appealing and functional.

It is possible that if there is enough customers asking for a particular resolution then they might either try to scale the graphics to what you are asking for or else allow the map area to be displayed across the full screen. Since I am unfamiliar with the details of the graphics engine I cannot actually speak for their reasoning. I do know that a lot of the game code is directly based on code written several years ago so there is a lot of "technology gap" that the developers have to contend with particularly with regard to graphics (i.e. monitors and graphics cards). I would guess it is on a long list of ideas that they have to judge against the available time and cost.

That said, I have played the game on wide screens at lower resolution and still enjoyed the experience. Think of it as watching Standard Definition on your HD set.

Thank you vonTirpitz,
I do enjoy AE. No widescreen isnīt that bad, I will play it anyway, as itīs a great game.

I just would like to know if there is any chance and, like you mentioned already, if I should look for others, so that matrix can see, that there is a need for that resolution.
If itīs not possible, it is a bit disappointing, but I can accept that nevertheless.

I know the devs are reading this thread, but I'll inquire as well whether we can make that 1366x768 supported in a future update.

*bump* Just curious if 1366x768 was found to be possible.

I can confirm this. I would imagine it's because the data screens are hard coded at that size, lower would require a recode. While higher simply expands your view of the pacific, with data screens retaining their original size.
