First time poster :)

This game looks really, really cool. Very excited for it to come out. I haven't seen any mention of how to research technology. Looking at the size of the galaxy and the amount of planets and moons to colonize, this game is going to be a long one. How is technology research handled?

I don't enjoy playing games that have a finite amount of techs and the "cap" is easily reached and then the rest of the game is played with no tech increases and most of the enemies have the same techs so having a tech advantage is no longer possible.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Is there technology in the game that is unique to specific races?
And is there technology that can be found through exploration that cannot be had through research?
Is is possible to acquire technology from other races through spying? and if so is there a way to prevent other races from stealing technology from you?

How big is the typical tech tree, ie how many possibilities for research?
Is there tiered research?, so that if you research one specific tech you are prevented from researching another specific tech?
As the galaxy is really very huge, I suspect it will take some time to finish a game, how long will it take to complete the tech tree?

There is some race-specific tech, but the majority is researchable by all races. Some very advanced tech can only be discovered through exploration.
Spies can steal tech from other empires, but counter-intelligence is also important: you can catch enemy spies.
Tech is divided into 17 different categories, like shields, engines, sensors, construction, colonization, mining, etc. Each category has anywhere from 4 to 20 techs of varying levels.
Research speed can be set faster or slower when setting up the game.
There will be a video about Research and Ship Design later that will explain all of this in more detail.

As can be seen on a screenshot in the question thread there is 5 settings for research speed "Very Slow, Slow, Normal, Fast, Very Fast"

Agree :)
Love big research trees :) Especially when they are more fun than "+2% damage" :P

I hate tech trees that run out mid game.

Armada I am looking at you.

Is tech-tree dynamic like in Sword of the Stars?

I think it was pretty much the only thing which I liked about this game.
