Lützow -> Beta Patch Registration Error (2/21/2010 6:42:07 PM)

The beta patch gives a registration error and while the game itself is still running, widescreen isn't supported. I tried it on two different machines. My main PC (Intel Quadcore 8200, Radeon 3850), where WitP AE already was installed, and with a fresh game installation on my Notebook (Acer Aspire TZ 1810, Intel Dualcore SU4100, GMX 4500MHD Graphics). Both machines are running under Win 7x64 and I got this message after applying the recent patch.

Well, tried everything. Upgraded to latest Catalyst driver, de-installed WitP AE, made sure the accordingly registry entry was deleted, re-downloaded the patch and did a fresh game install in admin mode. Got still the same 'Invalid RegKey' message. [:(]

I wonder if this only occurs for me or concerns everybody using Win7x64. C'mon, there must be some logic behind this error.

WLockard -> RE: Beta Patch Registration Error (2/21/2010 9:08:19 PM)

I think I saw this somewhere else here and BigJ62(?) said that it was supposed to be Wow6432Note instead, a misspelling.

BigJ62 -> RE: Beta Patch Registration Error (2/21/2010 9:38:05 PM)

His path appears to be correct except for 'Case'. this is my registry path on my machine 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition'

Was hoping, a Dev could shed some light on this RegKey issue, so I'm able to fix it for myself. I mean, it's strange that this happens with two of my systems, which totally distinguish in regard to hardware, while obviously noone else is concerned.

Not all users are getting the error. I just installed the patch and the error didn't come up.

I use XP, so it might be a WIN7 thing.
Looked in registry and WOW does not even show up

Does the patch install the files before it gets this error or after?
If after then it probably could be ignored.

Explanation of WOW6432
The Wow6432 registry entry indicates that you're running a 64-bit version of Windows. The OS uses this key to present a separate view of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE for 32-bit applications that run on a 64-bit version of Windows. When a 32-bit application queries a value under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\<company>\<product> subkey, the application reads from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\<company>\<product> subkey. The figure below shows the structure under Wow6432Node that 32-bit applications will see. A "registry reflector" copies certain values between the 32-bit and 64-bit registry views (e.g., mainly for COM registration) and resolves any conflicts using a last-writer-wins approach.

Reading this, it looks like to manually update the entries by copying the entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Matrix Games\War .. to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Matrix Games\War ...

BUT BE-CAREFUL not to break anything...backup up registry first!!!

BPRE -> RE: Beta Patch Registration Error (3/19/2010 10:57:02 PM)

Just installed AE on a completely new 64-bit machine with 64-bit Win7. I got the same popup from Windows Script Host when I upgraded to 1.01.02a.

Mickaels advice about copying the data from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Matrix games doesn't work since that entry doesn't exist.

Since nobody seems to have any problems with this afterwards I'll just continue and we'll see.

Ashtur -> RE: Beta Patch Registration Error (4/20/2010 8:26:27 PM)

I just got this error in trying to reinstall the game and patch. What does anyone know about it? (and, I'm not real happy with the idea of having to mess with my reg files) Will the game work still?

michaelm75au -> RE: Beta Patch Registration Error (4/21/2010 6:51:35 AM)

The game should still function from what I can tell. But then I don't use a 64-bit O/S to verify it.
