Squamry -> Minesweeper Suicide? (2/24/2010 12:50:42 PM)

I've had this twice now and the second time was so infuriated I went back and redid a turn:

Playing as Japs against the AI. I have a TF of 3 DMS mine clearing at Bataan. I get the clearing mine messages, and then a message for each DMS saying it has been sunk, but no messages about hitting a mine. It seems downright odd that all 3 DMS go from healthy to sunk at the same time with no warning? There was on the second occasion an allied sub at Bataan as well, but there was no indication of any intereaction between the DMS and Sub.

Any ideas what is casuing this?

Maybe the coastal guns killed them if Bataan is still under allied control.

78,77 (Bataan) and 79,77 (Manila) are both Narrow Straits. Bataan, in particular has really big coastal guns that wreak havoc upon any hapless Japanese ships that venture there. Those guns will make short work of three little DMS.

Yes, keep your ships away from Bataan.
They'll be slaughtered.

I had a full surface combat fleet obliterated trying to get to Manila through Bataan.
3 CAs, 2 CLs and 5 DDs killed or maimed.

I reloaded too... [;)]

John Lansford -> RE: Minesweeper Suicide? (2/24/2010 6:07:41 PM)

Both times I had a CG get to that point, when Manila fell the AI tried to immediately run a transport TF there to resupply the land units.  Too bad that both times I still controlled Bataan; the combat reports went on and on and on with "xAK hits mine" or "xAK hit by 12" shell" predominating...
