Any thoughts about doing an actual withdrawal from China as the Japanese to provide manpower to the inner defense lines as the war goes against the empire? I would be thinking more along the lines of a withdrawal from the interior while retaining the coastal cities.

Speaking mainly from experience extrapolation (I am not far enough along for late war), I am not in favor of this as a widespread strategy.

My view is the key to thwarting an enemy invasion is not the troops on the ground. It is the navy and airforce combat prior to and during landing. With that in mind, a marginal withdrawal can be helpful for the most critical locations (Luzon, marianas, etc), but I would not give anything up to do that.

I dont think withdrawing to the coast line is a very good idea. You wont be able to shift forces around to threatened sectors without control of the central railroad.
