vimconfused -> Does Pilot Nationality Effect Availability? (3/2/2010 10:33:17 AM)

Not a question about pilot experience on arrival during the German campaign (I understand it goes down over time), but a question of quantity of pilots.

No shortage of German pilots... in fact when the Sturmstaffel arrived, it had 35 pilots for its 12 aircraft! I've got another fighter group with 55 pilots for 36 aircraft. The question is about Hungarian/Romanian/Co-Axis pilots (and I guess I'll get some Italians back in due course). Its more important as I've put a few of these allied staffels in the front line, but I've noticed a couple haven't got enough pilots for all their planes. Is this going to be a problem, or will they eventually turn up?

the Sturmstaffel has all of the pilots who flew with it

some units have a lot of pilots, (easy to find, better info on the unit) and the ones who don't start, are on a delay, hassle with this system is, if you are not losing pilots, you can get a lot of pilots sitting around in one unit

each nation has it's own pilot replacement rates, some are going to be smaller then others

(Heavy losses by say, the Co-Axis is going to be HARD to replace)

Thanks again.

I'm also interested in how rank and initial experience is decided.

Re experience, I was looking at my top scoring group and it has three pilots who appear never to have flown a mission with over 90 experience.

Re rank, I have a Stab commanded by an Oberst that also has two Majors, whilst my best gruppe mentioned above is commanded by a Hauptman and only has four other officers.

well, a Oberst is a higher rank then a Major ?

also, the Stab is the HQ unit, so it should have the higher ranks then the Guppen

for command, it will depend on who commanded, if he took over command from someone else, he may of been the top ranked pilot in the unit, he will end up getting promoted to the correct rank if under ranked

some units will be odd, as they will have higher ranks flying then in command (the RAF had Wing Leaders, who will fly with Squadrons instead of the whole wing, so a RAF Squadron may have a GC flying, while the Squadron has a SL in command)

also for the RAF, BC had a different set up, so a Wing Commander will command, and SL will be Flight leaders (even odder, you could have a SL as a Ra/Nag flying with a Sgt Pilot)

if they are "named" pilots, then there Exp is based on what they had done during the war (when known)

if it is a good unit, the Exp being gain by the Unit, may also help out the ones who are not flying

if they are AI pilots, who knows, the AI will give you garbage and it may give you uber pilots

(also, I am not working with a prefect list of command and control, and TO&E of each unit, I have added in as many pilots as I could find, some are going to be the wrong rank, some will have ranks they ended the war with, not what they started with, some may of flown with 5-10 units during the war, and I have tried to add them to the correct one for the time, based on what info I can find)

Indeed, there is a Vice Air Marshal in a RAF spitfire recon unit, and a german General Major in a 410 stab squadron, neither of them in command :p
