Charbroiled -> OT: Decent fiction book (3/2/2010 4:44:45 PM)

I just finished reading "South to Java" by William P, Mack. It is a decent fictional story of a DD and takes place in the PI, Borneo, and Java at the start of the war.

It isn't very gripping like some others that I have read, but if someone is looking for a decent story to get the feel of what it was like on a DD in late '41-early'42, I would recommend it.

Not about DD's , but Samurai by Subara Sakai is a must read for anyone playing AE imo .

John Lansford -> RE: OT: Decent fiction book (3/2/2010 7:52:47 PM)

I just finished reading the "Destroyermen" series, which involves a pair of 4 stack DD's in an alternate history/world setting, plus a fictitional Japanese BC.  The author put a lot of research into the DD's and their crews, and the pacing of the books made them hard to put down.  If you like your history mixed with some science fiction, they're worth picking up.

I read the same series on a lark. You must put your mind in neutral to enjoy but the pages go by fast. Kind of a "Connecticut Yankee" meets "Land of the Lost" series.[:)]

The fourth one is due out in a month or so. They are great "mind candy". [:D]
