Consider this a place to put updated information on current and planned mods. Lets hear from the mod makers.

Well as you're asking I'm working on a Britannia Mod for Brit Fan Boys.

As a Brit (and though I'm thankful for US help in WW2) I've imagined a scenario where the Brits don't need US kit and are able to play a bigger role after Germany surrenders in Spring 43 when Hitler is killed on the way back from Smolensk thanks to Gen Treskow. Better still the FAA has been able to procure (almost) decent aircraft without RAF interference since the 30s. Much of the aircraft production is advanced having assumed the Centaurus and Sabre engines are not held up.

I've completed all the artwork - pick a real or flying prototype british aircraft from the time and its probably being added - firebrand, sturgeon, spearfish, albemarle, mb5, stirling, shetland, halifax. Try me!

As for the RN - they standardised on the 15" gun so for BBs - a ten gun QE class, Hood (& Howe!), F3s, 9x15" KGVs, a 6x15" Dunkerque equivalent class and a 12x15" Lion Class. CVs see two Hood CV conversions and then ships close to historical classes but at least four of each type - Ark Royal, Unicorn, Indomitable, Audacious, Malta, Colossus, Majestic and Centaur. Nairana and Empire MAC CVEs. Final major addition is a 9.2" cruiser class. Just to make things interesting I've kept close to Treaty limits upto 1937.

Not much change to the ground units due to occupation duty in Europe.

Feel free to ask any questions or suggest any changes.

I have the AltWNT scenarios, based on alternative conclusions to the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty, or lack thereof in one case.

The scenarios come in several flavours, depending on the result of the Treaty and Japans prewar plans. There are also 'Enhanced' variants featuring an overall stronger Japan for those who want things a little more even.

The 'Mk1' editions of the Scenarios are available in the AltWNT thread (see my Signature).

The 'Mk2' edition of the mod is under development, and will involve more fundemental changes, including an overhaul of all aircraft devices, most naval/CD guns, as well as other more extensive changes than the current scenarios. There will also be a 'stock AE' variant, incorporating only the device database changes.

topeverest -> RE: What mods are coming? (3/2/2010 9:39:43 PM)

I am working a speculative war scenario where the concept is that Japan realized the totality of War with America prior to executing the war's start. The leaders decided the Navy was underpowered for the task and ordered expansion to the limits of the economic capacity. Japan thus prepares accordingly - if perhaps too late - by laying down considerably combat and supply ships shortly before and after the start of the war at the cost of some land forces. They also will have more pilots, probably similar to scen 2. Specifics will follow at a later date. I am still a ways away - I am in research mode, trying to get to a point where I can believe the proposed Jap OOB remix is feasible, even if speculative.

For example, I am working to solve riddles like the following - if the Japs decided to commit to xxx incremental total ships. Lets say for simplicity's sake they commit to build 50 to 100 more DD's to the OOB mix, what would that mean. How many could be taken on at one time (how many births available). What yard sizes would be needed, how fast could they be built, how much does this drain the economy given available resources, etc.

Any thoughts from experienced MOD'ers is appreciated.

Big B -> RE: What mods are coming? (3/3/2010 1:15:31 AM)

I had some success with my mod series in WitP, and I have wanted to get started with an AE version.
But to be honest, I have been waiting for at least the first three patches to come out for AE before considering doing any serious work - it's very time consuming.

All I have done with AE is testing the Coral Sea and Guadalcanal scenarios, just to see the state of the game as is, and glossing over threads with big complaints like Artillery Death Stars, etc, to get a feel for what seems to be out of kilter (aside from my own experience).

I'd like to work on B-AE-2 someday, at this point focusing on air combat, and what I consider some "clean-up" work on warship stats...I'm not too sure yet on what else (if anything) could use a good make-over.

In my WitP mod, my intent was strictly limited to trying to get (what I thought was) a more historical type of game...not really any attempt at exotic "what if's".
I had thought early on about a non-historical 1937 scenario with never-built battleships - but I have been dissuaded on that idea because I believe the date system won't go earlier than 1941.

So if I do put out an AE mod it will most likely be limited to a traditional style- more historically oriented mod.

That being said - I have also considered the notion of doing an Avalon Hill style "Tactics II - in the Pacific" mod...something assumed to be an Non-Historical "War Game" where units are basic and equal... a more purely a fictional strategy game, rather than purport to be THE realistic game of the Pacific War. Why? Well - it wouldn't be burdened with complaints that "X is Uber and Y isn't as good as it was in real life"...just more of a pure war game. It might also be able to use a lot of Jet aircraft too.

Don't know if anyone would be interested in that though...

There is yet another one (not elaborated on here), but B is waiting on my sorry a** to get it all together. B is done with his part, but my contibution has been hampered by probably every excuse I can come up with yet!!![;)][:D][8D]

I know I would!!!![&o] Looking foward to what develops here!!!

vettim89 -> RE: What mods are coming? (3/3/2010 5:37:36 AM)

Big B was one of the most successful WiTP mods as far as evening things out. Just now finishing up my Big B 1.4 GC against my esteemed opponent Larry (March 1945 with Allies teetering on the brink of Autovictory). I would support a Big B 2.0 for AE enthusiastically.

I am working on modding ideas. Do not know if they will be published as its own entity. I foresee more of a system tester where my ideas get pushed into another mod like Da Babes or Big B 2.0. The Big B WiTP success was in "taming" the game engine so that more reasonable results could be expected. One of the problems with the AE/WiTP engine in my mind is that the bell curve is flattened too much. A reasonable goal should be to have 80% of results be within two standard deviations of the mean. If that were true, 10% of the results would be above the curve and 10% below. The rest should be comfortably in the middle. So yes you should see an occasional Savo Island or Kula Gulf but a lot more results should be like Cape Esperance or Kolombangara (just using some SCTF battles as examples).

If my mod does get published that is the kind of thing you can expect out of it. I may name it "The Bell Curve" mod

When I was young (many years ago), I owned the orginal WiTP "Board" game. It had seven maps and over 5000 itty bitty cardboard counters. My opponent was always my brother Mikimoto. While we never played the full campaign beyond a few months, we played the Guadalcanal scenario a lot. The other thing we did was a free form game. We set the date to early 1943, used the map that included the DEI, and "bought"our units using the VP schedule. Each side got like 1000 points and was able to set their forces as they chose. Was a lot of fun as far as choosing how many CV's vs BB's, how much LBA vs combat troops, etc. Great fun.

Brians idea here is sort of an AE version of that. Could be a lot of fun.
