ade670 -> Bombing ranges (3/6/2010 2:53:07 PM)

Guys,

Can anyone confim how bombing ranges work at the max available range please?

I am playing the AI in the Guadalcanal scenario and am trying to bomb Rabul from Cooktown (distance in Hex 20)
The B17e has a range of 23 and therefore should be able to reach the target.

For information, the airfield capacity is 3 building to 4.
I have SW Pacific HQ stationed in Townsville (command range of 9)
The airfield isn't overstacked and supply is good.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as despite reading the manual I cant work it out!

Cheers,

Ade

Guys,

Think I may have found this myself - Manual 7.2.1.7 Air unit targets and destinations.
"Level bombers flying out of a small airfield cannot fly at extended range and will be treated as if they were flying at extended range when bombing targets at normal range"

The formula being 4+(max load of aircraft/6500), rounded down.

So my base in cooktown needs to be at level 5 before I can gain this extended capability!

Jeez the game is complex!

Well dont respond unless different to the above!

Happy already!

Ade

Ade760, good find. :) You should actually read EVERY page of the manual from Chapter 2 all the way to Chapter 21. There is soooo much you will not know unless you read every page. Even though there have been several major patches since the game came out, the manual is still 99.9% correct as far as current game mechanics are concerned. Reading every page will help you a lot. I read the chapters that most interested me first (naval first, then air, then bases, then ground units... etc.)

Then play the Coral Sea scenario for about ten days as Allies and ten days as Axis, then put up an advertisement for a Guadalcanal PBEM opponent and play the game like it's really meant to be played... ;)
