I don't go back and play really old games anymore. I'm still trying to find time to play the games I bought a while ago but haven't had time to play yet. But, my hearts yearns for my old favorites like Uncommon Valor and XCOM: UFO Defense.

So many games, so little time....

sabre1 -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (3/12/2010 4:17:31 AM)

6. Russo German War

I still play Age of Empires, The Conquerors once and a while. Great game. Mainly I play because my wife will play it against me, when she loses she swears off it, (and on me) for a while then months later I can get her to play again. Haha.

Greybriar -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/20/2010 3:36:28 AM)

I finally got Master of Magic up and running on my Vista PC using DOSBox! If I had 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives I could play a lot of my old favorites.

Aurelian -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/20/2010 4:12:11 AM)

Go on the old Amiga 1000

You could buy a plug in 5.25 and 3.5 floppy drives for about 20.00 bucks. Thats what I did.

hgilmer3 -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/21/2010 1:50:25 AM)

Just played War in Russia
I play Forge of Freedom a lot still
I replay Call of Duty 2 constantly

I'd been holding off doing that since I have an old 486 with both 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives. Unfortunately it isn't running and I'm not sure if I can get the tired old thing working again. Do you have any recommendations for an external 5.25" floppy drive?

See my sig? [:D]

EUBanana -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/21/2010 3:05:25 PM)

Alpha Centauri is the main one, I actually play that quite a lot, even today. Last played it a couple of days ago. "Chairman Banana, your police state is godless and wretched!". I think it has aged well, I prefer it to Civ4.

I actually play a lot of old stuff, not been all that interested in new games for a while. I bought Aliens vs Predator the other day, but it sucked IMHO. It did, however, make me install the ten year old Monolith game, AVP2, and that was much better. [:D]

If it's just for Master of Magic, you could also wait a couple of weeks...it's already been guranteed to show up soon on Good Old Games. [:)]

I don't need it for Master of Magic--I have it on CD as well as on floppy (I got the CD version free with another game I bought from MicroProse) and MoM is working just fine for me with DOSBox. It's for the hundreds of other games I have on 5.25" floppies.

BTW I think it's great that GOG is releasing MoM. As dated as its graphics are, I believe many of today's gamers will appreciate the opportunity to play a classic such as it is.

Zap -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/22/2010 9:05:34 AM)

Greybriar,

Plug-in Drives
I don't think you have much of a selction (due to low volume sales). Since they are so inexpesive you can't go wrong with whatever the store has on hand.

Greybriar -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/22/2010 9:37:35 AM)

So far I have only found this one, Zap. I think I could probably pick up a used system for that price. But even those are getting hard to find.

bigmed1204 -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/22/2010 1:19:37 PM)

I know they aren't that old but I had a great time playing Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue on the Dreamcast.  Makes me wanna order one off of Ebay.

I remember a package deal I bought a long long time ago had 4 cd's in it and the set contained: Master of Orion, Master of Magic, X-com Defender and X-com Terror. Now I tell you that was a classic set of great games if ever there was one and it was like $5.

Hartford688 -> RE: Favorite Old Games That you still play (4/24/2010 8:27:41 AM)

Just started up Baldur's Gate II (Dragon Age got me in the mood). Very good.
