dogancan -> Shortest War in History (3/16/2010 7:01:35 PM)

may be you have heard about it. it is the Anglo-Zanzibar War and the war was ended with British victory just after 38 minutes of its beginning.

I would really like to see a strategic or operational level game focusing on that specific conflict. Some scenarios may focus on particular fronts, but a grand-campaign is a must. The problem is, if such a game would be real time, then it would probably be a click-fest; and if the devs go for turn-based, well in that case, a game of only one turn will be quite interesting to play [:D]

It better not have any DRM, that's a show stopper for me. Also, it must have a scenario editor and a production model in place for the AI.

Phatguy -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/16/2010 8:43:33 PM)

dont forget to model each individual soldier....

IronManBeta -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/16/2010 9:14:40 PM)

How much would you be willing to pay for this game?  Is on-line multiplayer a must?  Modable content?  If the uniform details were incorrect in any way would you pass on it?  Just wondering....

If the payroll numbers of the troopers aren't included on the info screen then it just isn't realistic.

Well, if it doesn't have a dynamic campaign that would allow me to play from day one until, uh, day one....you can COUNT ME OUT!

[:D]

How about a candidate for the least bloodless 'war'.

http://www.nps.gov/archive/sajh/pig_war_new.htm

Total loss for both sides, one pig.

Perhaps something like the Forge of Freedom system could recreate this...

If the pimples on the drummers are missing I am so NOT buying this travesty at that point..Unless they promise us a mega patch on the 1st day...

Hertston -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/16/2010 11:46:01 PM)

IMHO, this could only really work as an MMORPG. Lots of level grinding to get your Jolly Jack Tar to Admiral, heated discussion on best builds for a Zanzibaran slave, a free in-game cannon all of your own if you pre-order the deluxe edition, and so on and so on.

jwarrenw13 -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/16/2010 11:50:55 PM)

Turned-based.  One minute per turn.  With the option to extend to a full hour.

Southernland -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/17/2010 2:04:00 AM)

I'd like the diplomatic interface to include the 17 years of squabbling and wrangling that actually preceded the actual combat.

but with day turns or at the least absolute real-time....

06 Maestro -> RE: Shortest War in History (3/17/2010 6:08:08 AM)

The game would have the potential to be a monster. Much could happen every minute-actually, every minute could be broken into 10 turns. Now we have a game of 380 turns. With the different areas, such a s diplomacy, that will need to be addressed each turn could take an hour or so to complete.

I just don't know; I think I would pass on it.

I want historical variants.  What would happen, for example, if Germany decided to intervene on behalf of Zanzibar.  Now we need a much bigger map scale to show the effects of this affair escalating into a world war.

Paradox can do it using the HOI 3 engine.

LOL.
I looked up some sites about this "war" and I just found this funny bit on wiki where the Germans intervened right after Britain's "gunboat-policy", in a way: The Khalif of Zanzibar fled to the German consulate, thinking he would be safe, but the British troops demanded to kick out the guy so they could arrest him. German sailors inside - guarding the Khalif, British sailors outside, waiting for the Khalif to set foot on Zanzibar's soil. I hate to quote wikipedia, but this sounded funny:

quote:

ORIGINAL: Wiki

Despite extradition requests the German consul refused to surrender Khalid to the British as his country's extradition treaty with Britain specifically excluded political prisoners.[40] Instead, the German consul promised to remove Khalid to German East Africa without him "setting foot on the soil of Zanzibar". At 10:00 on 2 October, SMS Seeadler of the German Navy arrived in port; at high tide, one of Seeadler's boats made it up to the consulate's garden gate and Khalid stepped directly from consular grounds to a German war vessel and hence was free from arrest.[46] He was transferred from the boat onto the Seeadler and was then taken to Dar es Salaam in German East Africa.
