ahh yea that is an interesting challenge. Perhaps you can make a zone that will encompass the sea net and minefield area of a city and then have a card that deploys it for PP. thats the only way i can think to do it. And waw is already super full of zones so i don't know if you have any extras easily? For making the weather system i had to tweak a ton of crap just to get enough zones to simulate global regional weather. Which i should finish it was cool play testing it lol.

Grymme' Dodecanese scenario has seam mines placeable by action card from a minelayer ship. Check it out.

explorer i know there were historically no ports on wake midway etc. But without ports it makes it a real bear to supply those islands. Perhaps putting ports on them along with more big sea hexes around them will give you the simulated hardness of getting supply in but also will allow the things the ports help with.

That's a pretty good idea I will give much consideration to. The biggest problem with making them ports is that naval vessels then get to refuel and heal there, which is an actual problem game wise. In reality, damaged ships or ill supplied ships had to find a safe way to limp home, and this was a perilous journey and usually required escorts.
But I also recognize that land units stayed in supply simply by ships servicing them and having smalller boats unload them (though at the time of unloading, the supply ships were quite vulnerable, for example at Guadalcanal).

The ideal would be a new unit that was a supply ship that could transfer its supply from sea hex to land hex. Short of that, your solultion may be better than the current more geographically accurate one. It's just the idea of ships having safe harbor at Midway, Wake, Iwo, etc... is bad for me, but maybe a necessary evil.

well my opinion about them is that right now they are not important and that's contrary to how important they where historically. They where so important that the battle over them was the turning point in the pacific. because they where halfway between japan and the USA.

Making them ports that can be supplied (without any big water around them) would make them very important in the game. It would allow both sides to use them as stepping stones for invasions. Which would simulate there importance as forward airfields in real life.

Japan wanted midway to stage Bombing raids against pearl and to use as a forward base for possibly invading pearl. If japan had succeeded in taking midway it would have changed the USA's plans for the Pacific theater. They couldnt have bypassed it and ignored it like they did Wake, they would have had to retake it before they could have done anything else. leaving Japan free to secure other areas such as Guadalcanal.

Plus ingame you can use subs to interdict the supply to those islands.

I think it would add a nice strategic flavor to the pacific.
