vimconfused -> Me 262A-0 (3/19/2010 12:02:25 PM)

1 March 44 and the first Me 262 arrives. Just one that is. Next day I get another one. Does this carry on daily at one a day? Does the supply stop at any time?

Thinking the best units for these small numbers are the experienced Stabs. Any other thoughts? Incidentally if you think I was annoyed by my own flak shooting down my own fighters, you ain't seen nothing yet if they shoot down one of these!!!

You receive 1 a day for 1 month only.Look under scenirios and modding for dates for axis planes.Yesterday lost 1me262-0 and 3 damaged to aa so know how you feel

Correct, these are the pre-production aircraft.  You also received Epr Kdo 262 for which the 30 replacement aircraft are intended.

Historically this is all too early and way too many planes, but it makes for good fun.  Suggest using Epr Kdo against Allied recon planes - launch 4 to intercept enables one to knock down more at once.  This was how the unit was actually used, albeit they started in July 1944 IIRC.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Me 262A-0 (3/19/2010 4:18:15 PM)

Correct on the first part, wrong on the 2nd part

they were in testing, by the KG's

(which yes, I would rather only have about 6-10 of them, but, not the way the system works)

(so, read the extra numbers as the odd ones being lost)

(also, remember, the testing process was long and drawn out, the plane never really went Opp (they did go to units, they did fly combat, but when the war ended, the plane was still not really ready for action)

(too much wasted time and effort, giving them to the KG (J) 's)

(funny, was just rereading about them again, last night)

Macbeth: Thank you for the pointer toward the aircraft stats page, I hadn't seen that table before and will add it to the data I already have.

Nicholas: Thanks for the suggestion for using these. I hadn't considered going after the recons, I'll give it a try!

Very true.  I was only talking about fighter operations, given we don't have bomber operations.

Yep, the KG(j) units were total failures, but not because they were short planes.  They kept getting bombed out and drawing new planes for, only to continue their "training".  It was all politics by then, the bomber crowd vs the fighter crowd, even if the bomber pilots were supposed to fly the 262 as a fighter, and both were supposed to be defending the Fatherland.  Frankly, their is more than a little truth in Goering's ranting about cowardice.  Maybe not outright cowardice, but avoiding combat, finding technical reasons not to fly, etc.  Just read one of Prien's histories and a sad story it tells.  I guess one can't blame them for not wanting to die for a lost cause, but this is not what I learned as a youth reading Galland.  Obviously this was the case for the pilots of KJ(j) 54 and the other 262 units which never operated.
