Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/22/2010 5:28:44 PM)

October 24th 1940.
Just as the winter is about to set in we reached our main goals for 1940: German tanks capture Kazan, Astrakhan and the Oilfields of Baku.
This reduces the front to two areas: Leningrad and the Kazan/Omsk area.
In Leningrad the SU is mounting a counterattack with divebombers, artillery and tanks. We are bringing in as many reinforcements as possible and hope for the supply of the enemy to go to critical levels soon.
In the Kazan/Omsk area we are still so much stronger that we might even continue the war through the winter.
In the South we need only to eliminate the remaining units which have no more sources of supply.

In the West all invasion forces are thrown back into the sea. We are continuing our efforts to build an Atlantikwall with rifle-units defending the ports and a network of artillery and tanks in the second level to throw out any units which have landed.

We are missing 10 VP before being able to start the countdown to victory. Maybe Leningrad. Or maybe Omsk and Istambul. Lets see....

What have you planned for 41-45??

Grymme -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/23/2010 1:39:33 PM)

It is actually 1941. I do not know why Lunaticus insists on it being 1940. Maybe a part of the german propagandamachine.

I think with the fall of the SU that the game is more or less over.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/23/2010 5:04:43 PM)

Thanks Grymme. You are of course right, the date should be 1941 not 1940 for the last rounds. Somehow messed that up.

Not sure if the game is really over already. I do not know what happens now in the winter with Partisans and the Winter effect and so and how much this will hurt the German army. If this is not too much of a setback I think the German position is good. The Axis should now be able to outproduce the Allies for the time being (until full US production kicks in). If things go well in the winter then in 1942 I am hoping to capture much of the rest of the SU and Turkey while building up the Atlantikwall but I do not want to underestimate the opponents either.

This leaves also a lot of discussion on game balance. If the game is essentially over now (as I said that is not my opinion) then the game needs some more balance adaption. Not sure what was done here from version T to version T6 but having the SU wake up in January is the  right thing. Also more partisans in 1940 will help. I also think that the "Historical Western Blitz" option allows the Germans to conquer France too easily and this leads to too many German troops for Barbarossa so this might need a balance counter (maybe have the SU wake up even a bit earlier then). Hoping to see some of the other AARs progress to the Barbarossa stage to compare a bit...

cveta -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/28/2010 10:39:52 PM)

I belive that this is partialy right. Axis is too strong, but not much.. But also I belive that lots ( if not almost all ) depend on a gameplay. We play 1 game here in Croatia with Germany under completly new player ( 1st game of At ever )and he is having a LOT of trouble. As a matter of fact he will be down in 1941.
So - if I see things in a right way - Su is the side wich should be stronger. Much more units in the front line, much more artilery, and tanks. Not the production, but units. As we all know from history Russian have a waste amount of man to deploy, And maybe germany manpover should be reduced so if Germany build a huge army in 1940-41 he wont be able to increase number of troops. Or new recruits should be made not to increase exp. over 10 without fight.

82ndtrooper -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/29/2010 12:01:58 AM)

I suggest wait for winter before making any judgments.

Russia still has a lot of production.
Germany hasn't even started its victory timer without taking Leningrad, and once it starts they have to hold everything for 18 turns which is a long time.

the partisans are absolutely going to make German life hell in this winter trust me on that.

people always get here and want to quit because its disheartening for the allies  BUT there is a lot of the game to be played and the USA is very powerfull, if they can apply pressure on the germans  then russia can rebuild and retake what its lost.

the winter will shut germany down and russia will have 5 months to get a solid base rebuilt

bwheatley -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/29/2010 4:54:28 AM)

I agree. In my game of waw i played with a friend we had the house rule that the germans don't pass the urals. That still gave the russias a base to build from and then when the United States gets into the game it just clobbers germany no matter what. It was a great game :)

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/29/2010 3:11:07 PM)

I am also of the opinion that the game is not over yet.
The winter will be tough for Germany and the SU can build up an army for the 42 campaign. And with the strength of the opponents we face we should never ever count these out. Lets see how it comes along.

82ndtrooper -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/29/2010 9:56:28 PM)

don't get me wrong we realize that there is a problem with Russia but we don't think its a huge one.  One thing we are considering is removing the "pressure German allies card" That card has a huge impact on the game and it also takes away the fun fighting in the Balkans and Greece. It allows Germany to charge through the south of Russia at will and that is one reason Russia is having so much trouble.

before this card it took Germany longer to get a big army in the south giving Russia a little more time to prepare.  This change alone could fix the whole thing.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (5/31/2010 10:05:30 PM)

November 22nd 1941(!)

Winter sets in. Instead of much advancing we now need to consolidate. We take one hex near Leningrad and two rows of hexes towards Omsk.
In the South the Soviet conscripts unsuccessfully try to attack near Astrakhan but we repulse them. Soon everything south of Kazan will be ours.

Hamburg is bombed heavily and even though we shoot down a lot of planes Hamburg is nearly burned down [:-]

Since the enemy is strong in Leningrad we are looking towards Omsk and Marseille to get the remaining 10 victory points. So some tanks are reshuffled to take over Vichy next turn or the turn after that.

Nearly all production is set to supply (about 48.000) and we manage to nearly burn these through completely. We have stockpiled 50.000 supply in Berlin so lets see if this suffices.

November 1941, Pearl Harbour

Well, ill be the first one to say i havent been writing to much in this AAR. But now i at least have to give some information.

I am very much stuck in China. And winter coming will not help. In the South China has even gone on a counter offensive which i am sure will be aided by the british in Burma.

I strike at Pearl Harbour and kill of 8 battleships, 3 cruisers, 5 fighters, 4 bombers and 2 coastal defenses.

Also i land in Borneo, the Philipines and NEI. British Subs are everywhere and somehow they manage to kill one fighter. Also i am expecting the british fleet to take revenge on my weak fleet remaining.

bwheatley -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/2/2010 5:34:17 PM)

I'd like to say for germany you should not go too far into those big land hexes. That will be where you should hold the line. Completely conquering to the urals should be all that is approved.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/2/2010 5:58:10 PM)

Thanks Bwheatly for the feedback.
Is this because you think the German army cannot handle to hold more territory? I actually wanted to drive onwards to the Pacific in 42'...

bwheatley -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/2/2010 7:23:13 PM)

:) i just think its unhistorical based on plans by the german army. But if it's just a gaming perspective then yea at least over run those production hexes past omsk.

I typically try to roleplay a bit when i play so you can ignore me and call me a crazy fool.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/8/2010 11:26:15 PM)

December 15th 1941:
Winter. Deep deep winter. Most units set to hold positions and dig in. Very slow advance towards Omsk.
5 groups of Partisans appear but not that much damage yet.
The West is concentrating on their air campaign  but we do not care much.
Nearly all production still set to supply.
Praying for spring soon.

Grymme -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/9/2010 8:58:39 PM)

For some reason i was expecting this round to be a massacre of my men and transports.

I opened the turn and there was a very reasonable 25 or so losses in infantry together with 4 ships. I killed almost as many infantry and sunk 6 submarines. Supply losses are pretty brutal though. I also get a very irritating message saying i didnt use the pacific blitz card quickly enough and that China gets a lot of advantages, this doesnt really feel fair since i did play the pacific blitz card on round 6 as told. But heck, maybe it will give them a better chance to get into the game. Not that it would be needed against me though. Japan is weak like a sick puppy in this scenario.

During my turn i capture the Phillipines and Borneo in quick order. I try a quick assault on Sumatra without sucess.

China is still pursuing its offensive against Hanoi. I have started to fortify it, its loaded up with 10 machineguns, but is still threatened.

My DDs are somewhat successfull and i hunt down a further 4 subs and 2 DD for a loss of 3 DDs for myself (if i remember correctly).

On my way back my navy bombards Wake and kills all defenders.

Some paratroopers are moved to Borneo to be sent to Sumatra next.

Production is shifted slightly towards ships. I build 3 DDIIIs per round now.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/16/2010 1:40:49 AM)

January 13th 1942:
Winter is gruesome. We try to attack a little bit but our former formidable army now even fails trying to take on some partisans. Russian partisans reoccupy Minsk, luckily that is not a production center. This turn we loose more soldiers in our turn then the SU.
We will need to wait out the winter and then clean things up again.
Also the West lands in the North of Denmark where we are pretty weak. On the plus side we manage to kill some 4 long-range transport crafts.

Grymme -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (6/19/2010 10:33:18 AM)

January 1942.

Each turn i expect the losses to be huge. This turn my losses was 5 infantry (and a lot of supply). Also the west has started a bombing campaign that levels Canton and Hanoi to the ground.

This turn i mop up a lot of submarines. I kill 6 subs for the loss of 2 destroyers. Also i capture back some ground in China killing some 10-15 infantry and 20 conscripts for a loss of 4 rifles, 2 MGs and 1 SMG.

havent been able to land in NEI yet. Next turn or the turn after that i will be able to come with my large fleets to fight my way into NEI.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (7/1/2010 4:57:43 AM)

March 1942:
Finally it is spring again and the horrible winter is over. Our troops are still recovering but we managed to get rid of most partisans already.
Now we need to go for the knock-out. We took two hexes near Leningrad and hope to have Leningrad in two rounds. Also we are continuing to press towards Omsk.
Armygroup A is slowly readying to move against Turkey.
Unfortunately the enemy did manage to land in the North of Denmark. We will build a reaction strike force.

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (7/8/2010 6:19:51 AM)

April 1942
Our seasoned troops finally make the breakthrough in the Far East. We overrun Omsk and some factory hexes and open the way to the Asian portion of the SU. We think now the ability of the SU to continue the war will now quickly be reduced to nothing.
On the other front we take Leningrad this turn which activates the victory condition which we now need to hold for 15 turns.
Meanwhile we are preparing in the West for an invasion by the West...

Grymme -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (7/8/2010 9:53:31 AM)

Heavy infantry losses during the enemies turn. Also a pesky submarine nestles himself in the only way my supply and reinforcements can get into the southern Command HQ which equals horrible losses for that HQ. On the positive side the Chinese loose 5 levelbombers and thereby all offensive aircapability.

In my turn i assault and capture Surabaya. The last city in NEI. Paratroopers take the city after an assault from the regular forces fail.

Air and naval bombardment of Singapore equals large losses for the city but also the loss of an elderly japanese battleship. Two corps of Imperial marine veterans land around Port Sweetenham.

My naval forces also bombard the advancing allied forces outside Hanoi.

In China not much happens. I evacuate a hex in the north and bombard the advancing enemy.

In the glorious tradition of the Italians in 1940 Japan declares war on Soviet Union and quickly surrounds Vladivostok which appears to be lightly garrisoned.

ehzorg -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (7/8/2010 3:59:26 PM)

Wonder if the death of the Soviet Union will be the nail in the Allies coffin. Doesn't look good for Allies at all - they should be able to hold their own with America's production, but to invade Europe/Asia in the next 10 turns or so with Germany's full attention to defense will be very hard!

cveta -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (11/2/2010 4:10:57 PM)

What is going on with this game? Did you have a winner or is the game still going on?

Tufkal2 -> RE: World at War ver. T Axis AAR (11/3/2010 10:15:53 PM)

We considered the game over some time ago...
