Dancing Bear -> 1.08.01 Beta (3/25/2010 4:08:01 AM)

Hi Marshall
I know you were away, but any feed back from the testers on 1.08 and any update on the release date? I know Del reported a serious bug with loading the GB reinforcement phase in the first month (maybe related to the out of synch error that you can get if one player uses an incorrect backup).
DB

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (3/26/2010 1:29:48 PM)

I just delivered a new image to the testers. Del relayed some battle file info to me but had not been able to dupe as far as I know now? I don't remember a reinf issue???

Del, any feedback?

delatbabel -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (3/29/2010 2:06:37 AM)

I have plans to work on it tonight. I have a bundle of test games and test conditions, etc.

One of the bigger plans I have is to create a test case for every rule in the rule book. That may take some time and is probably not likely to see the light of day until release 1.15 or so, but I'm working on creating test cases for all of the "broken" rules for each mantis bug presented to date.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (3/29/2010 2:13:46 PM)

Roger - Over!

Sorta -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (3/29/2010 6:25:37 PM)

Very, very approximately when will 1.08 be finished for the general player?

Regards, Angus

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (3/31/2010 12:42:24 PM)

We hope very soon but the simul diplomacy and eco needs more testing.

Dancing Bear -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/9/2010 3:04:07 AM)

Can either Marshall or the testers report on how is the testing going? I notice that it has been more than a month since an issue on Mantis has been resolved. Are we just confirming Mantis errors have been fixed? Is this something that we can help with?

delatbabel -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/9/2010 8:14:20 AM)

Marshall has given the OK to release to beta. I have given it a bit of a thrashing, it's not too bad although a bit rough in a few places. A lot of the combat bugs are fixed. It will require a bit more careful testing once more people have hold of it, there's only a limited amount of time I can put into it.

Dancing Bear -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/9/2010 1:26:28 PM)

Well Del, if you need some help with a systematic testing process (something like assigning different Mantis reports to individuals), let me know, and maybe I (and others) can help with the testing once we get the 1.08 BETA (I'm assuming here, we can run the 1.08 without upsetting ongoing games).

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/9/2010 1:50:58 PM)

Yes BUT make sure when you install the new BETA coming up that you install to a different folder which should keep things separate!

One of the things that I'm slowly working towards is to have valid test cases for all of the rules.

i.e. to move away from testing and retesting the same bugs to testing things like "does the game work in the rules as printed"? If the question to that can be answered "100% yes" then there should be no more bugs.

This is a slow process involving a lot of test games and if anyone has some games to contribute to that it'd be appreciated. I'm putting together a spreadsheet with the basic test cases outlined and once that's done we can divide and conquer on the test games.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/13/2010 12:42:43 PM)

Thanks for the hard work Del!

Well, there's gazfun's game that should almost be complete by now, so that should help.

Gee thanks mate [;)]

Gaz:

Hold your start because I am chasing the reinf phase issue that has popped up. It would stop you guys at the first reinf phase. Hang tight...

Ok cant do anything anyway till I get a copy of it

NeverMan -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/19/2010 5:58:15 PM)

You mean this game isn't over yet? I would have thought that it would have been based on how much of a rush you were in to get started and push turns through... interesting. [:D]

Dancing Bear -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/21/2010 3:32:19 AM)

Hi Marshall,
what is the status of the 1.08 BETA these days? Did you crack the reinforcement phase bug?

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/21/2010 12:35:54 PM)

Nope, not yet. We still do not have a good dupe scenario yet. We have submitted 1.08.01 for BETA release and I'm working 1.08.02 as we speak which will have the reinf fix when we can get a good dupe!

Can't help you here. I think only a couple of the testers have 1.08, so it is up to them.

Del put a save on Mantis, but I assume this does not adequately cover it.

Ted1066 -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/21/2010 11:08:49 PM)

What is this reinforcement bug? I had a situation in the latest official release where during a reinforcement phase I could not detach factors from a corps into Stockholm. It would create a 0-factor garrison icon on the map, but I could not transfer factors into it. This was a solo-AI game as France conquering a GB-controlled Sweden. Let me know if this file would be useful and I can forward it along.

Cheers,

Ted

Dancing Bear -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/22/2010 3:24:43 AM)

Hi Ted

This is Mantis 639 in versions 1.08 of the game or later (which only the testers have). Del apparently has a save file, but I don't think he has given it to Marshall yet.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/22/2010 1:41:13 PM)

Del:

Am I missing something?

Nah - I read through that Mantis report and what I was experiencing was different than what was described in 639. Sadly, I no longer have the save files from that solo game, so I can't dupe the issue.

Cheers,

Ted

gazfun -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/25/2010 10:28:03 PM)

I have on my list 2 players who still want to test Eske and Sorta, anyone else for this?

Yearworld -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/25/2010 10:36:33 PM)

I would be happy to help and test 1.08 if you need me.

Dancing Bear -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/26/2010 1:09:38 AM)

I'd be interested, but I don't think we need a full 7 players for this. If Marshall wants a year long test, why not play with 4 players, France, Britain, Austria and Turkey (to test the levy of feudals), and we can get through the year faster. If there is a 7th player, then maybe it should be Spain to test guerrillas.

gazfun -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/26/2010 2:18:28 AM)

Yes good point Dancing Bear, 5 should give us a good cross section of behaviour as you indicate France, Austria, GB, Turkey and Spain
This will also check out the naval with the last 3 MP's

Ashtar -> RE: 1.08.01 Beta (4/26/2010 1:19:28 PM)

Sorry to ask, but why you need more then one tester to test one year of pbem? One single tester can effectively simulate 7 players in a very short time on
locally on a single machine.
