I am loving rhe game--finally a game like this that actually works. I would just like some help in one area so far--Fleet formation.I want to have several fleets and every time I form another fleet it is gone on the next turn. I Thought it was automation of fleets so turned off-same problem--I know I am doing something stupid-but what. The rest of the game is going great--love the different screens.

I had this same problem. Seems if you have automate on that means you can't form your own fleets. Next game I will try it with them off.

YOu can keep you other ships on automate for defenses though. Like your fast escorts and stuff. That is seperate it seems from fleets. Which is pretty cool.. Just don't really like the way the AI handles your fleets. Not at all.

Oh and don't go to war. Unless you have too. Bad bad bad. And your advisers seem to love the idea though.

cobra13,

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying the game.

Are you saying that with fleet automation turned off, you were still having fleets disbanding?

cobra13 -> RE: Fleets (3/28/2010 7:07:08 PM)

Sorry if confusing-with fleet automation off they are not disbanding-by the way having a button to change their homeworlds is a brillant touch. The more I use the screens I realise the thought put into this game.
One suggestion - I would not suggest a new player of this type of game continue their game from the tutorial as it is overwhelming and destroys the fun aspects of the game.I started a new game on a large universe and became immersed in the buiding of the Imperiam Of Man. Left off at 4 in the morning-the last time I got so involved was when Civ first came out.
Thanks for the response-it would seem that fleets cannot be automated or the disband-correct?

About fleet automation i noticed in 1.1 (didnt test it with beta yet) that if you have fleet automation turned OFF and you automate the ships in the fleet then yes, they can leave the fleet and the fleet itself can get disbanded (when all the ships left it).

I noticed that after having formed a 8 ships fleet, since i didnt need it for attacks i automated the fleet in it to reinforce patroling in the area the fleet was stationed and soon after only 2 ships were in the fleet.
Sometime later the fleet was nomore.

I kinda curious on how the Ai handles some things. If a ship of yours is attacked does it send a non fleet ship to help?

My current game I have I think 111 Escorts maybe 78 frigates 75 destoyers 40 cruiser 8 Capitals. Most of the bigger ships are in an AI fleet which I think I have 4 of them. 2 of them have maybe 19 ships each. the other 2 are smaller.

So that means that I have like almost 150 ships that are just loaners. So when they are automated they get automatically assaigned a mission right? I see that is the case. But what happens when something bad happens an attack invasion. What does the AUTO AI do with those ships? Does it change it?

Gertjan -> RE: Fleets (3/29/2010 3:41:07 PM)

I would like that with fleet automation on the AI would only create fleets and not destroy additional manually created ones or abandon automated ships from manually created fleets.
