I created Konrad and finished it a few weeks ago. SSG kindly offered to package it with ATD2 so that more people will get to play it. Its a user created scenario set so is provided totally free.

I'm working on other projects for the ATD2 engine so if you like it there will be more user scenarios in the near future.

currently I am playtesting Operation Iskra and have started mapping Guadalcanal. There is more info and screen shots on the SSG forum.

To avoid some confusion with fellow SSG forum members: I'm Abwehr there.

There has been some talk about a Berlin scenario (didn't you intend to do that one at some point, Pete?) and Talos is working on a Caucasus scenario, although I'm not sure whether he'll use the ATD2/updated Kharkov engine.

Various users have also announced/been designing scenarios, but few are near completion.

I'm still mostly busy with editing/"updating" some Battles in Italy scenarios, I hope I'll be able to create scenarios in a while, but it will take some time as I'm not wizard when it comes to creating terrain tiles or unit graphics.

Pete's new scenarios are different from other scenarios in that VP's are (mostly) gained through objectives, not through killing units.

I have 2 Berlin scenarios planned. Operation Medicine wheel - the proposed 80's defence plan for Berlin vs the Ruskies and Berlin 1945, the 1945 game is proving harder to set out than I thought as I want to use a 2 map system I've been toying with (more on this later). I had a penchant for a change of counter colour so thought I'd try a bit of Jungle warfare for a change to all that snow.

Eventually I'll redo Burma and Sealion for ATD2.
I have done the entire map for AGN - but havent done a game for it yet so If you want a map for the area here Ab - I can lend you one.
I have 2 games just for Romanians vs Soviets that could be good with some work and was looking at Kanev 43 down the track.

I have a playable version of Borodino 1812 that needs a bit of work - but will shelve for now. Who knows SSG may go down the Civil War/Napoleonic path next since this must be the ultimate WW2 engine finished with ATD2.

these sound good. Ive been tempted more than once to work up some scenarios for this system. I may do it yet if I can figure out the map and the AI programming.

I have been a faithful supporter of everything SSG since Battlefront for the C64. Still, it is good--and I think very important for sales--that you're including 3 additional scenarios with the expansion. As well as some interesting tweaks. If it is priced as an expansion, I'm sure everyone will pick it up.

What Pete AU is doing is so important. I have designed many scenarios for the old Korsun system. My thinking is, I will get around to learning the new editors some day. Maybe others feel like this, which is why there is a dearth of scenarios.

Meanwhile, I would pay $10 for two or three well-designed scenarios by a pro like Pete. Food for thought.

The first SSG game I bought was the Battlefront for the C64. And it was also the first time I created my own scenario. And I've been a fan ever since.

Not to be a naysayer, but I hope the the icons and the sharpness has/can be increased as compared to other SSG releases. They have been blurry to my eyes, so much so that I have stopped buying this series. I know others have complained... Just not fun when the icons are not sharp.

But it seems they want to concentrate on code, not graphics, in the limited time they have.

Would be nice though.

certainly looks best at 1280x1024 native but you can play around with monitor scaling in the graphics card software to make it sharper on a widescreen LCD.

I would imagine that the hexes would be smaller and you could see more hexes on you're screen.

I suspect the issue is that, with LCD monitors, anything that's not the native resolution often introduces distortion or lack of sharpness for things like unit counters and informational text. It depends a lot on what your monitor's native resolution is vs. the game's resolution, the quality of your monitor, etc. I play the SSG stuff on an old 4:3 20.1" Viewsonic with a native resolution of 1600x1200, and the games are perfectly fine, but I agree that when you use the zoom function in particular it's a bit chunky. A very small nit pick however, all things considered.

The blocky pixelated look of this game engine has absolutely nothing to do with monitor resolution or zoom level. Look, for example, at the Avatar image for Joe98. Notice the zigzag staircase effect of the diagonal lines and the lack of smooth transitions during color blends. It's obvious that SSG is still using an old graphics engine that was ported over to Windows ages ago.

Now look at this screenshot from War in the East. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2410710#

See how crisp the graphics are on the icons. See how the diagonal lines show no stair-step effect. This is what a native Windows graphics engine looks like.

I'd love to play Across the Dnepr. But I can't endure graphics that look like they are from a DOS game circa 1999.

I think it is an engine from around the early 2000's but it was never a DOS port; none of the games in the series starting from 1995 were designed for or ever ran in dos. The screenshots posted do clearly show how crisp the game can be played at the right resolution.

The Grigsby game certainly looks nice and I am sure I will get around to playing it when it finally does come out, so I can make my own mind up.

To be honest I find the DB series counters better looking than than Grigsbys vanilla look - still, at least with the DB series you can edit them if you want (and thats something I love about the series) - getting them to look like Grigsbys wouldn't be hard - but isn't it nice to see division symbols etc rather than counters reminiscent of 1970's zip loc games? Grigsby's map looks great - I would have liked to see more effort on the counters.

I think if the unit editing template was bigger in the DB series then the counters would look crisper, but I'm not that fussed, and would it really sell more games. The games are always excellent and thats what matters - after a few glasses of red who cares.

The nice counters (and of course the look of the maps and a well done AI) were the main reason, that i decided to buy ssg games, 2 years ago. It would break my heard, if the division symbols were taken away.
