Colony AI improved?

Playing 1.02, i am quite impressed with the colonization AI. Previously it would queue up 4 colony ships at 1 colony, now it spreads them out. Also, it often advises me to build colony ships before I get around to doing it myself. I'm impressed. Anyone else notice this?
