RonLugge -> Discussion for Automation Control System Idea (3/29/2010 11:42:17 PM)

I'm sure everyone who uses the 'suggests ships' setting runs into this situation every once in a while. The advisor gets it into it's head that you need a new resupply ship, despite your military being defensively, not offensively, oriented. You say no. So it comes back a while later because it's decided you need new explorer ships (which I'd say yes to) as well as the resupply ship (which is a complete waste, and I'm not paying for it). So instead of saying 'yes', you have to say 'no'. This mounts up. You have to manually queue up the 40 or 50 escorts it feels appropriate, probably doing an inferior job at spreading out the construction across your empire, just because you don't feel that you need 3 or 4 resupply ships, or 5 or 6 construction vessels. My idea is two fold: one, be able to say 'yes' to part of the request, or view it in more detail (what kind of escorts, frigates, destroyers, do you want?). And, if you say 'no' to a given ship, then make that no stick, so it doesn't pop back up unless you decide you need it. Second, be able to 'tweak' the details for what it thinks it wants. Either through a generic, empire level setting that says you want a defensive fleet, or an offensive fleet, or through the ability to actually manipulate the weights the AI uses to decide what is needed. This should also extend to manipulating how the AI decides what ships do what. (For example, I'd really like to have more escorts, so that every construction ship has at least one, maybe two escort class ships shadowing it. Colony ships should get a frigate or two! So I need both more ships, and a way to make more ships do the escort thing.) So, anyone have any comments, ideas, concerns, ways to improve or things to fix before I post this in the master wish list thread?
