forsaken1111 -> Why won't you deploy!?! (3/31/2010 11:54:46 AM)

This is the most frustrating thing ever.

I have a resupply ship which will not deploy itself. It has the correct equipment, I checked.

So I wanted to get a fleet somewhere and then refuel for an attack. I found a nice untouched gas giant near there and selected a resupply ship and told him to deploy on the gas giant. It has caslon which I need for fuel. He happily zips along until he is about halfway there. At this point he has 420 fuel left, which is about half his total. He stops dead in space, middle of nowhere, and starts moving at speed 3 (THREE!). I click him to see what is up, he has decided to go refuel at a gas mining plant owned by my enemy. WHAT?!

Okay, so you need fuel? That's fine I can get you fuel. I tell him to go refuel at my spaceport nearby. He starts to turn, then says he wants to refuel at the gas mining facility and resumes moving at speed 3 towards the VERY distant facility. Yes it was the closest fueling point but it's an ENEMY point, and he isn't even using his hyperdrive to get there.

Why oh why can't he just go to the gas giant? He has the fuel to get there, and he will get MORE fuel when he gets there. JUST GO! He refuses.

Just so you know, automation was OFF. I even turned ALL automation off. It frustrated me so much I actually quit without saving, as every resupply ship I tried did some variation on this.

I think I am done with this game until some patching happens.

Huwie -> RE: Why won't you deploy!?! (3/31/2010 12:17:12 PM)

This is pretty much a known bug now. Please consider capturing the issue in a save game so that Erik can look at it.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Why won't you deploy!?! (3/31/2010 2:03:39 PM)

There's definitely some kind of bug here and we are planning to look at resupply ship behavior for this update, if time allows. I thought this was only happening when they were low on fuel, but this makes the issue potentially more severe, although I've also seen them working normally. We'll investigate and fix.

In my current game I had the same problem. Figured it was probably a bug. And yes, it had >50% fuel. I would give you the savegame, but I scrapped the resupply ship, because it attracted escorts that were on automatic (so that I had a small fleet that decided to protect it while it crawled back home).

Okim -> RE: Why won't you deploy!?! (3/31/2010 4:43:56 PM)

The same situation with my resupply ships. In my case one of them actually managed to deploy, but only when they had 2/3 of fuel. If it get <50% it immediately cancels any (!) orders that i give it and tries to get to the nearest gas station or port.

Make sure it is NOT a Frozen Gas Giant.

It is not mentoined in the pedia, but supply ships will not deploy on frozen gas giants, just in case you tried it on one of those.

No, I understand this. It was a normal gas giant with the correct gas.

The issue was:

A. It would not even get to the planet, much less try to deploy. B. When trying to refuel, it would not even use its hyperdrive. C. It ignored MY ORDERS. This is possibly the worst one. If a ship is not on automation then it should do what I tell it to, not what it thinks is best.

I have noticed the same behavior, though much less frustrating, from construction ships. If they are <50% fuel and I tell them to do something, even with automation off, they will pop off thousands of miles to refuel before coming back to build the station next to them where I clicked.

RonLugge -> RE: Why won't you deploy!?! (4/1/2010 12:21:22 AM)

Actually, construction ships have to get resources before they can build things.
