sbach2o -> Savefile with Mining Stations becoming detached from their planets. (4/1/2010 8:02:36 AM)

I also think I have instructions on how to produce the effect.

The file in question is MiningStationsDetached.zip on your FTP server. Detailed instructions on how to reproduce the problem are included in the zip archive. I was lucky to have a save file where one of the later affected Mining Stations was just under construction, and another was being started on.

The general problem may come down to a constructor receiving an order to queue another Mining Station (or different project?) while it is busy building one. Reproducing this may be easy without my save file. It is provided just in case. You may also try the following (I didn't think to try this myself until just now):

* Start a new game. * Give your two starting constructors orders to build Mining Stations, immediately. * Wait until both constructors have begun the construction. * Open expansion planner and assign new resource targets for Mining Stations.

If this is enough to produce the problem, the constructors themselves have now become detached from their construction sites, and so will the stations once they are finished.

Also, I do not know whether the problem can also be produced by direct right-click order or whether it is limited to orders through expansion planner.

I hope this helps.

I've seen mostly ports detached from their home planet, in which cases there weren't any constructors involved. But I hope the developers will be able to figure out the problem from your save file.

I'd venture a guess that these are two different problems. With the Mining Stations it is actually the constructor that is getting detached.

I've never seen a detached starbase. Maybe it is some not-accounted for user interaction causing this. I'd try to order a ship on the starbase while it is still under construction, either from the Spaceyards list or the right-click menu. I think a starbase can become technically operational that way before construction is finished, if the right components are available soon enough. If that does not work, try scrapping ships on such a starbase... Or this only can happen when you let the automation order ships, something I haven't allowed often. Things along this line.

impact -> RE: Savefile with Mining Stations becoming detached from their planets. (4/1/2010 5:13:16 PM)

I have had this once. It was caused by my construction ship getting attacked by a pirate during the construction process. It cancelled construction and tried to escape, but later on returned and tried to build the same base, just detached from the planet this time while the original base was still unfinished. Hope this makes sense.
