satisfaction -> Base supply draw question (4/1/2010 3:51:26 PM)

Alright playing as IJN and it is Jan '42 and I'm getting a little concerned about aircraft replacement, or in this case the lack thereof. I had set the Val and Kate factories to expand to 36 each, and converted one other to produce 21 Mabels. I saw the total lack of carrier replacement aircraft and sought to address it with this first step. I would then make further changes after a month or two. However my Mabel factory (Gifu I think) has not repaired a single point and the Val and Kates aren't much better. I know it takes supplies and fuel to repair these, and these are scarce at these locations. On the other hand there are literally hundreds of thousands of supply and fuel within a few hexes in either direction (Tokyo for one has almost half a million I think!). Is there a way to quit having Tokyo and Osaka (I believe this is the other culprit) pull all the supply to them? Or is there a way I can "prioritize" my manufacturing centers so they build up a reserve? This is not critical yet, but it will be soon. Already having to get a little creative with my airgroups.

You need about 10k in supplies to repair factories. Use the add supply button.

You need 10k+ supply in a city/base hex for repairs to happen. Certain cities will collect supplies automatically; even if you send freighters with the supplies needed, they will simply flow away toward the preferred cities. You have some control over this. Go to the base page, and on the left side you will see the "Supplies required:" line with arrows surrounding the value; Gifu probably doesn't have a garrison, so I would expect the value to be zero. Use the arrows to adjust this value and the supplies will flow automatically. Setting these values is one of the "First Turn" tasks enjoyed by us JFBs, but is also important in maintaining supply levels at the front. Use caution though, the automatic supply system seems to maintain double the required level. For the Home Islands this is not normally a problem, but several bases with factories/resources (Kweiteh) have low supply limits (5000). In these bases, if you bump the requirement by 10k and add a garrison, you can find 36,000 supplies "crowding" the base several turns later; spoilage becomes a huge problem.

Enjoy!

BTW, 36 Kates a month? Not enough!

Thanks all! Yeah no kidding not enough...especially now in my second month with no replacements!!!!!!!! I wanted to split between Mabels and Kates to ease the engine crunch with Kates. I figured 57 Kate/Mabels would be a good starting point, then pushing it up as those production levels are met.

Holy @#$% I've got almost 3 MILLION supply in Tokyo....repair here I come!! Thanks again, just hope it is not too late. Those missing Kates did put a big hole(s) in the Allied Navy though.

Do you have engineers at the bases? Best results I've had is with moving the Home Island AF support battalions and the Infantry divisions to the major factory sites: Maebashi, Gifu, etc. Steady repair of one point per turn once engineers are present. Otherwise, yes, you have to mickey around with supply a lot.

You don't need any engineers or even any ground units at all in a base to repair factories - all you need 10,0001 supplies and it will repair 1 point and cost 1000 supplies. Move your engineers to important ports and expand them like crazy to ease the shipping of resources / oil in and supplies / men out.

Good stuff all, don't know what I'll do once I can actually restock my squadrons. Good to know those millions of supply will find a use. I'm not stripping forward areas either, there is a good supply up forward but that is slowing going down. Resources are starting to pour in now. I know us IJN types are never good in the long run, but hopefully I'll soon be in a position to really push on with Phase 2. Not that I have any idea where that will be, but just need to finish up Singapore and Bataan and probably Java and then I'll really find out.
