Nabobalis -> Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 12:18:15 PM)

IS it possible to start with just a home world. no ships, no ship designs etc?

So I can have the pleasure of doing all that my self from scratch.

Resan -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 12:38:19 PM)

Not in any easy way. You can use the editor to remove anything else then the first colony for your self and any AI.

The AI seems to be able to deal with it, but it's alot more difficult imho.

Okim -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 1:42:49 PM)

Just don`t remove the spaceport above your colony or you`ll never be able to construct anything. A lot of required resources are stored in its cargo bays :)

Resan -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 2:08:06 PM)

Not a 100% on that one. I've changed the spaceport with one of my own design, jusing the editor.

This should probably emty the cargohold (dind't think of that, when I did it [sm=innocent0009.gif]), but I could build just fine....

Wade1000 -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 2:19:11 PM)

Planets store and share resources with their starbase.

Tree Dog -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 2:45:47 PM)

You won't be able to hold, you'll absolutely need the resources from the starbases you have at start to construct anything.

Grotius -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 3:20:15 PM)

It would be nice to start with just the essentials, though. Maybe just the starbase and the starting colony, then?

BigWolfChris -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 4:32:30 PM)

Personally, I think it would be better to start the game as your race builds its first Space Port and maybe exploration vessel
As for resources, it might need refining what is needed to build the first basic ships
Thought, might need to add new components - lets call them pre-warp techs - that only use simply resources but provide very little uses beyond getting ships/resources/peoples from A to B

HsojVvad -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 6:39:21 PM)

I did exactly that. I used the editor, and it only took 5 minutes. I used the ereaser to erease everything but my colony. The game was BORING. I built my star base, then I built a constructor. It took F O R E V E R to build that constructor. The game was boring and I was playing a 4X speed.

I wouldn't recoment ereasing everything but go ahead and try it. At least I learnt alot of things by this way. I would recomend at elast keeping the Star Base and the Private sectors to help you with your economy.

Just save your game before earasing everything. I accidendtly earsed my home planet and the game ended unexpectedly. [:D]

BigWolfChris -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 7:56:32 PM)

As you need a space port to do anything, you should have at least that to begin with

How I see it, if we were to be given the option, we should be able to start with what you need, nothing more
Which would be 1 colony, 1 Space Port above said colony and maybe 1 exploration vessel

I might even be inclined to go with, 1 constructor and any moons on your homeworld starting with mining bases on them

Starting with a small fleet, and an already settled mining industry makes me feel as I've arrived a couple of years late

Personally, if I could choose this option for all players within my savegame, I would be a little happier
Sure I could use the editor, but it's starting to be noted some of us get crashes down the line after using it
Plus, it's alot more work doing this each game start vs just selecting an option

Of course, this is how I feel, it comes down to Elliot on if it's thinks the programming time is worth the effort

Aurelian -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 8:57:25 PM)

It would be a nice option to be able to start with just 1 colony/spaceport.

I agree. I wouold really like to see this as well.

HsojVvad -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/3/2010 11:14:52 PM)

Again guys you can do this. If you want the option to start with one colony and one scout ship, use the editor. Spend the 5 minutes it takes to earase everything. I did it, I found it not fun. Maybe you guys will.

Instead of complaining that it's not there, don't complain, just do it yourself. CF thought this wasn't a good idea, but gave us the tools for us to be able to do it. Do you need someone to hold your hand for everything? Just remember to save your game before using the editor. I deleted my colony by accident. [sm=00000959.gif] It was game over for me LOL.

So open that editor and start earasing and have your one scout ship, and add in a colony ship. (not shure how to add a ship yet, never done that yet.)

Let's see

1) Don't want to know where the AI is at the start of a game as that ruins the exploration factor a bit

2) 5 minutes is 5 minutes when it could easily be fixed with an option on the game start screen.

I would personally like to see the bare min start be just your planet with enough resources to build a large spaceport and a few ships. Heck have a button that turns off the initial designs as well.

Don't look at the map, then, don't do it for the IA, more challenge !

Also, what are 5 minutes in what could be a XX hours long game ? :/

Why is this even an issue it will take the developer all of 30 minutes to implement its not like your talking redesigning the resource system or something. And 5 minutes x 5,000 users is alot of wasted time. Also alot of people are learning the game and having a bare min start doing all your designs yourself manually cntrolling everything is a great bottom up way to learn the game so you might be restarting several games in a 2 hour play session to go over a starting micro build so that keeps adding 5 minutes everytime. The AI argument is still valid as maybe you don't want to give the ai that kind of boost. Options are good things you personally don't like the option, don't choose it.

Again out of all the things people could throw back into people's faces saying the user needs to be more assertive how can this possibly be on your hitlist, doesn't even enter that realm its easily fixed by the develper adding an option.

Don't expand past your system. As Tree Dog has said, it gives the AI a bit of an advantage.

Also for number 2, now it just looks like you are starting to whine and complain. The amount of time it took you to reply to me and Tree Dog you could have done this yourself. Now you just look ungreatfull for people trying to help you.

*edit* Yes you are correct it can be thrown in peoples faces, but there is a way of being polite about it. Yes it's one thing to say this would be a good idea. I have even asked for this. But we tried to help you so you can do this now. It just seems you are so ungreatfull for us trying to help you.

Yes it would be a good idea so we don't have to do it in the editor, but Erik has said we really need the infanstructure so you have an economy to start off. He said they will consider it though if enough people request it enough.

I am just trying to help you so you can have a game of it now, before it's implimented. CodeForce did an awsome job in giving us the editor so we can do what ever we want, even while playing the game. Use it. If not, don't cry and whine about it. Your precsious 5 minutes. You just pissed me off. So ungreatfull.

Thats blatantly uncalled for, as I also pointed out you can restart this build so it can potentially be mutliple 5 minute design sessions for something EASILY added by the developer. Once again this is maybe a 30 minute add for him. Why on earth this is an issue for you is starting to border on the unbelievable especially to start flaming someone by calling them a whiner. If you want to pick fights calling users whiners for wanting things added you coulda picked an issue where your argements at least made some sense but continuing to say that users should continue to waste time as well as the immersion factor by seeing AI start positions for something the developer could easily fix is getting a bit on the ridiculous side.

Did you wake up on the wrong side today or something. I agree with you thanks for letting people know this is possible before they make a change. However you were arguing the change shouldn't be made as people can change it themselves which is entirely different.

HsojVvad -> RE: Starting With just a planet (4/4/2010 12:25:15 AM)

Sorry, I am starving, and waiting for dinner. I havn't said that this shouldn't be done though. I wouldn't argue this at all, since I would love to have this function. Maybe I read your post wrong. I thought you were saying your 5 minutes was precious and you shouldn't have to be bothered for it.

Sorry if I read that wrong. [sm=00000436.gif] My friend.
