Malevolence -> Distant Worlds runs fast on my machine (4/4/2010 5:41:15 PM)

I've seen a lot of posts about Distant Worlds running sluggish. I would like to add for whatever analysis being done that this game flies on my very old machine.

OS: Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3
Hardware: 32-bit Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.80Ghz, 4GB RAM (3.25GB)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

Runs fine for me, although I have a dual core system and NVIDIA GTS250.

The only thing that bugs me or makes it "seem" to be sluggish is that way you zoom in and out, instead of a steady in/out it's in steps which can make it appear to be choppy.

I have that too, but I disabled the nebulas. Go to options, the I believe it advanced options, turn off the nebulas, and now I scroll seemlessly and I see no difference with or without nebulas.

well the folks that talked about sluggishness had advanced empires as I recall, lots of colonies etc... BUT it is good news that we are seeing good reports, I too am not having any lag... other than stuff that is programed in and the learnign curve.. my sys is a decent quad.. with good video and mem

It runs well for me too.

For anyone with performance issues, please also see the Tech Support FAQ (in the Tech Support sub-forum) for some performance tweak suggestions. Regarding the zooming, if you adjust the zoom speed you can make it smoother at the expense of having it take longer to zoom all the way in or out.

Here's a vote of confidence - Runs fine on my asus netbook Eeepc 1000HE

1.6 Atom
950 Intel GPU
Windows 7
2 Gig onboard ram
4 gig Readyboost ram

Everything is turned down of course but this really isn't about graphics is it?

taltamir -> RE: Distant Worlds runs fast on my machine (4/4/2010 10:15:56 PM)

are you playing on a huge map (1400 stars) with over 300 planets in your empire?

freeboy -> RE: Distant Worlds runs fast on my machine (4/4/2010 10:16:44 PM)

I just bumped my map up and wil ltest teh limits of a big empire in a normal 700 star sys.. we will see

try the maximum size instead of "one size bigger"...

Probably reports from the mega universe players are most informative - if the 1400 star systems can be handled by the machines of a certain age....it would encourage some owners of older machines. Though I think they could "settle" for smaller star systems, eh?

Anyone with i7 platform should be banned from posting about performance issues. [:D] (including myself)

Thats not a old system, its pretty OK.
It runs quite decently on my 2ghz, 1mb system. It takes 15 minutes to get going though. Initial load up times are horrid. And saving- ouch.
