1st Marine Provisional Brigade was formed by III Amphibious Corps on Guadalcanal on 04/19/44 with 4th and 22nd Marines as it's nucleus. The 305th RCT of the 77th Infantry Division was attached on 07/10/44. The Brigade was V Amphibious Corps floating reserve for the Saipan assault, and landed on Guam on 07/21/44. The 305th RCT was detached and returned to it's parent division on 07/24/44.
