The bit that went wrong was the failure to realise that the tanks wouldn't get off the beach dure to the shingle and the sea wall. The PBI (poor bloody infantry) got the short end of the stick. It was of huge use, because it showed the allies that they wouldn't capture a port easily on D day, so invented Mulberry.
