I like to play with maximum ammount of Space Creatures, and then, every 3-5 Stars have atleast one Kaltor.

This is a major pain for the AI! To the player too, unless he knows how to addapt to it.

As I was playing, I discovered none of the original designs would work against Space Creatures.
It was a massacre. A bloodbath. These Space Creatures would shred my ships to pieces in seconds, destroying my ability to hyperjump, move, regen energy and worse still: shields were ignored.

Their damaged my ships straight into the hull.

Then I decided to call the exterminator on them, and thats why I designed a tool to deal specifically with Space Creatures. To clean the explored the systems of their threat: preventing me from colonizings, constructing mines, or just harassing "Private" ships.

This design used the most basic/starting components/techs, to be used from the get go as you start exploring.

Would it be a good idea to add torps to this at some point? Or just stick with beams?

I found when I had Torps they were awsome. A bit of hitting before the Maxos Blaster were in range. Maybe he dosn't have Torps in his current game.

Yah Torps are superior to blasters. At close range they do maximum damage many times that of a blaster.

Need way more engines on this. Kaltors are speed 35+. If your ship isn't capable of doing 40ish, you shouldn't be playing with those guys. If you don't have a torp launcher, get one. Two or three torp launchers and SPEED is all you need to shoot down Kaltors with impunity. Heck, you don't even need a dedicated hunter, just a Fast Explorer with some buttorps. If all you have are blasters, they will do, but you will want to switch to torps ASAP, so you can simply buttorp and run.

So essentially you made a frigate the size of a destroyer.  With 1.03, I would imagine just making sure your ships are at standoff would be good enough.  I rarely need more than a couple frigates in the first place to deal with one pre 1.03.  The annoying thing to me was just wasting the time doing it.  I do think it's a little ironic that you like it but then say how poorly the AI fairs against creatures so it sounds a bit like a AI exploit.

Reapir bots of damange control is good addition.
Both reduce damge taken and repair bots repair damanged components.

As other pointed out, there's imho not any real need of Kaltor hunters.. Explorers should have a 35+ speed, some armor, a shield for possible pirate attacks, a couple blasters or torps, and do exploring. Keep'em small and fast...Then if you need to get rid of Kaltors or anything send warships !
