Even the reviewer says aircraft carriers are cool. [:D] See we need fighters and carriers.

That was a very good review. For a miniute at the begining I thought I was reading an AAR.

No it is not.I see DW as a grand strategic 4X and not the same type of game as MOO2.

I think in the essence of the grand and new feeling moo gave you. DW has accomplished, I will venture to say it can be a classic with enough updates.

Anthropoid -> RE: Review up on eurogamer.dk (4/12/2010 8:01:06 PM)

It is a classic already. Updates/expansions will only make it a more grand classic.

JonathanStrange -> RE: Review up on eurogamer.dk (4/12/2010 8:34:13 PM)

Not a classic game yet; but with potential. And time will tell but calling a game a classic after a couple of weeks is extravagant.

How anyone can call a game a classic when it is for all intents and purposes, unplayable as designed, is beyond me. Take any galaxy with more than 700 systems, add at least 6 AI opponents and play it through to the end, (or rather try to play it through to the end). Classic joke maybe, but hardly a classic gaming experience. The credibility of anyone calling this game a classic in its present stage of development should be seriously questioned.

What seems to be the problem, Nim8or?

Aurore -> RE: Review up on eurogamer.dk (4/13/2010 1:34:17 AM)

(excuse my bad english)
Nim8or just want to say devs have to improve the game with patchs. [:)]. Anyway DW is not the 4x space game players wait for. So be cool. But it's a good game :
- it's playable and you can have fun play it actually
- DW is better than all space games we see since 10 years. All site gave 8-9/10 to Since of a solar empire... and SOSE is really a stupid and bad game.
I think DW is a very good try.

[:D] yes many will wait for DW 2 for futures. But the fight system is not good (same for galactic civ [:(] ). You can't have real battle.

No problem, my skin just crawls when I hear the kind of hyperbole that has been kicking around this forum in the last two weeks. This game is promising. I love to support small developers and encourage someone who loves their craft. I bought the game to support a new developer and believe that funding (via a purchase) and constructive criticism will accomplish exactly that.

That said, there is no need to extend encouragement to the point of exaggeration, and that's exactly what you are doing when you call Distant Worlds a 'classic'. There are important aspects of the game that greatly hinder any enjoyment following the mid-game. Combat is dull and uninspired. The A.I. is questionable in many regards. Little if anything is original in the game, which is fine as long as the whole package is cohesive and works. Right now it doesn't.

I have every confidence the game will improve. At some point it may even have lasting appeal and slide into history alongside Steel Panthers, Panzer General, MOO 1 & 2, Master of Magic, Settlers, Civilization, SimCity and other true classic games. Give it some time and patience. Be enthusiastic and provide encouragement, ideas and criticism - all of which will help the game become better. All I ask is that you try to refrain from obvious and intentional exaggeration in doing so.

Thank you for setting everyone straight, nim8or. [:-]

I agree. As a game, its not a classic. Im actually not having very much FUN when playing this game. Its interesting, in an "i-like-scifi" kinda way. But its pure gameplay isnt very interesting or entertaining.
And before you other ppl tell me to go back to Call of Duty if i want to be entertained, remember that the purpose of games are to be fun. Its a recreational hobby, not a job. (which is also why i dont like EVE Online)
If im not having fun, there really isnt much point in spending my in real life time playing that game.
