With my racefile swiftly becoming heavily customised it's occurred to me that I may also be messing up gamebalance.
I was wondering if any of you technical types out there would be able to design a programme that is capable of analysing a races.txt and give back a summery of certain things such as.........

1.how many of each species (humanoid/insectoid/etc.) is contained in the file
2.how many factions are native to each planet type.
3.how many factions use each shipset.
4.design type.
5.etc.

I think it could be incredibly useful for people that are making their own races and don't want to upset the balance of their game.

there is a race editing tool in one of the threads here (modding) that does exactly this BUT it doesnt give all in one details you have to click each race but you can make the differences by each of them except for who uses what ship designs and thats it. :D

Yep I've been using the tool it's really handy.
I just think a summary of the entire file would be helpful.
Perhaps I should enquire if he is willing to add it to his tool, seeing as he has part of the work done already.

Would a table with sortable columns suit your goals?
That would be easiest to implement, generating a textual summary is also possible, but i think more information can be put in a table.

You could probably open it up in excel then just re-save it as a comma delineated text document, tbh.

A table sounds perfect to me.
Thank you for responding and thanks again for your original tool.[&o]
