There is a scale in war acts; the dirtier you fight it, the more likely the other side will do it too, and you end up with a lot more atrocities and harder it is to convince the other to end the war. There are clean wars where only war targets are attacked, prisoners treated fairly, no ransaking, no women harmed and no dirty weapons used... But the more casualties there are, the less civilized it gets.
