Paco -> Ice (11/24/2000 3:10:00 PM)

Hi Is it possible to have ice instead of water in a winter landscape? If not, will it be implemented? Thanks

Very nice idea, but no - I dont think we are ever going to see real frozen lakes in SPWAW. It would bring many nice surprises though, try to get your heavy Tigers across that frozen river....Crash! One Tiger sunk Better fix VCR-bugs and other minor things in SPWAW 4.5 - And maybe, MAYBE we see frozen lakes in future WWII game made by Matrix - with better engine of course

While not totally able to represent ice, I use the cement icon to represent frozen rivers and lakes. It works quite well. Check out some of the battles in Heroes of the Motherland. WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Problem with using cement is, that it does not hinder movement. In reality, if ice cover is sturdy enough to support tanks, then it probably also has a couple feet of snow on it too, unless someone has ploughed it first. So ideally there would be two kinds of ice: one would be early winter or spring ice, which would support infantry but not vehicles, and would be easy to traverse, and the other would be sturdy ice, which would support all but the heaviest vehicles, and would be difficult to cross for non-ski infantry.

I seem to remember something about bridges, are there not two types of bridges, one's that will support light vehicles and Infantry and not heavy vehicles (please correct me it I'm wrong) and one that will support all traffic? Would not it be possible to create ice by using characteristics of light and heavy bridges with an ice icon?

Ice would be possible if there were time to do it. There isn't. Cement, as I say, is makeshift, eye candy, nothing more. Real ice would hinder movement and be a real threat as far as cracking, collapsing and converting to water (blub, blub)! I wish.... Hi I've been asking for ice and different weight limits for different bridge types for quite some time. I've posted two messages about this before (in threads about bugs and improvements), but I doubt that we will ever see these. I'm not even sure that Matrix games is going put any new features, just maybe fixing some bugs
