Tyranicus -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/21/2010 10:46:44 PM)

I got a shield problem, It says "Reducing" in my shield status on my Cap ship, I got like 7 reactors on that thing so energy is not a problem. Also is just in normal space orbitin a planet

Webbco -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/21/2010 10:51:36 PM)

Is it flying through a nebula? Or a supernova? Certain environments affect shields negatively.

Tyranicus -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/21/2010 10:56:18 PM)

Its not even movin I saw another empire's ship with the same problem just flyin round normal space

JosEPhII -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/21/2010 11:01:24 PM)

Tyranicus,

Do you have Energy collector(s) on that capital ship?

You can have a Ton of Reactors on it but if you are in a system, parked or cruising, it needs Energy collector(s) to maintain shields.

I'm attempting to install Beta 2 and it tells me I already have installed 1.04 and am completely up to date (it also warns me my serial number might not work).

Has anyone else seen this?

Yep Did that to me too but I ignored it and installed anyway, the new features are working and everything seems fine.

Tyranicus -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/21/2010 11:06:11 PM)

Yea I gots energy collectors on it. Do you need to put alot of collectors on the ship if you have like 25 shields? I thought the shields ran off the reactor power.

Yes, same here. I waited for a response and then just tried it. :)

lol the fanboys get so butthurt when you rightfully criticize the game

That's enough of that, no personal attacks.

Sigh -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 1:51:34 AM)

What a joke erik. there was nothing "personal" about that post unlike many posts directed towards me and others who dare to criticize the game.
Not that I really care.

But just to stay on topic and because im actually interested:

will there be another beta update for the crash problem that elliot addressed? And if yes when is it planned for. also is it something that happens extremly often? (As in is it worth even playing momentarily?)

Igard -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 2:43:50 AM)

Well, I have nothing against people criticizing a game they've paid their hard earned cash for, but calling people 'fanboys' and claiming them to be 'butthurt' is sort of personal, man.[;)]

Sigh -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 3:47:44 AM)

Well whatever

Anyways it seems that the balance changes have made the game a lot lot more interesting as i am actually struggling to keep my cash in the plus while expanding (actually im NOT expanding due to cash problems) so I really have to applaud the changes (although im guessing it will need some more balancing). Building things is also taking muuuuuch longer (I dont fully understand the economy but im guessing its due to missing resources). I also really like this change as it makes resources actually have value

The only real fear I have is whether the AI can cope with this. If the AI just becomes insanely easy because it can not deal with the economy then meh. Cant tell yet as i only have contact with a single empire (who is quite bit weaker then me...).
EDIT: also i observed an escort with the automated mission to attack some pirate.. it was flying in deep space towards a completely unexplored area with no (known) pirates.
I didnt let it go where it was headed though so no idea what was going on. While watching this i also noticed a complete fleet with the mission i gave it to patrol a star ignore a pirate in that system...

fabio80mi -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 7:03:55 AM)

Had a crash in early game (game started with 1.04 beta and updated to 1.04 beta2). so far i couldnt reproduce it, in any case here is the screenshot for it

Gerth -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 8:18:30 AM)

The new empire/game setup is waaaaaay nicer. Thanks, guys.

Sliverine -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 8:23:46 AM)

yea i frankly dont understand why ppl get so hurt about criticism. I mean, the truth should hurt but since its not really true, why are ppl still getting so hurt? its like this young ignorant kid comes up to your face and says you look like a weasel, and you feel like your life is over...gee...

It's not the criticism that's the problem. It's the "you're all fanboys and are butthurt for not agreeing with me" attitude that gets tiring.

Sliverine -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 8:44:36 AM)

yea thats criticism isnt it? hes criticizing the way you guys are so immersed into the game so as to regard the game in all its glory and perfection, thereby missing out the glaringly obvious bugs and problems which come with it, which isnt really true, which then comes back to my point of why you guys get so hurt over that.

He also criticizes the way you guys get hurt so easily over disagreement and/or criticism and since you guys actually feel hurt/tired/sore whatever, you are simply adding weight to his words and at the same time, since his words actually start to hold weight, its going to hurt you guys even more since the truth hurts. So...we should all stop shooting ourselves in our respective feet and just look at the logical side of things. Do not feed the trolls.

Sigh -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 9:10:27 AM)

How about just admitting that the game is currently broken and not in release condition instead of acting like sheep (In my opinion.. is that better?). Even if you disregard all of the gameplay/interface issues and just go by the pure amount of crashes you would have to come to that conclusion. I get butthurt over the fanboyism because its one of the contributing factors in why my favorite pasttime has become riddled with unplayable software (also from a design standpoint). Developers use the fact that people cant return the product as an excuse to sell buggy/worthless games and are only helped in that behavior by non-critical consumers.

XBox live will not allow a game on the indie(!) marketplace if it crashes just once during testing. No matter how absolutely obscure the crash is.

---

I seem to be able to enjoy the game now though. What i have been saying still stands and ill prob flip while having fun and not being able to continue due to some inexcusable crash in the future but alot of the massive gameplay/interface flaws have been addressed and the game is (slowly) starting to shine as far as i can tell. still have to see if the AI puts up anything resembling a fight though.

Don't expect me not to comment when people are speaking as if I'm "not here" either

Sliverine -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 9:18:34 AM)

Kriegsspieler -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 10:51:45 AM)

What I notice in the 1.04b beta patch is that suddenly my military ships are repeatedly reporting that they're being attacked by independent freighters, and then they start shooting back at them. As I can't recall ecver seeing such a thing before, I can only conclude it's a byproduct of a tweak recently made to the game. In any case, I dpn't think my military ships ought to be so trigger-happy.

Sliverine -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 11:00:39 AM)

maybe they actually got attacked? lol!

Possibly, but if that's the case then why are small independent freighters taking pot shots at my frigates?

Sliverine -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 11:31:18 AM)

that is a good question. could pirates perhaps have smuggler departments piloting independent freighters?

Okim -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 12:04:15 PM)

Most of the indies i have so far met were quite unfriendly (stated in the pop-up window and resulting in unlikeness of colonisation). Perhaps these unfriendly guys should not have been given weapons? :)

Okim -> RE: Distant Worlds 1.0.4 Public Beta Now Available (4/22/2010 12:06:29 PM)

I also wonder if the same algorithm that forces neutral AI players to attack your military ships (should these venture too far into their territories) has some impact on indies.

That has not been my experience, but that's mostly becuse they've been of the same racial type. I'm not working from a very large sample size, though.

This gets a little tiring Sigh. The game in not broken unplayable. The game is very much playable. What your version of playable is, I don't know, but the game is not broken. You can play it. You might not have fun with it, but it dosn't mean it's broken. Many many people have said they had no crashes and can play the game. If you don't want a game to crash, stick to the console then. Don't everyones computer system is different, so that is why there can be a few crashes for some, but hardly none for others. This does not make the game broken.

The game may not be fun for you. You might find the way the game is executed boring or not challenging, for you, but that dosn't mean the game is broken. Broken means the game is unplayable. Right now the game can be played. Many people have stated this. To call them fanboys is not fair. So what if they like the game. If they like the game, that means something went right for them.

I love this game. Am I a fan boy? I don't think so. I have praised alot of this game I also critizied alot of this game as well. I even agree with most of your posts. But after a week it gets tiring that you keep saying broken. It's not. Me and many people here find this game very playable on day one. For you to keep saying its unplayable even after all the hard work through patches just makes you seem a bitter person.

You have stated your peace, but why are you still harping on it's brokeness. If the game is not fun for you I can understand that. But you can play it. If the game does crash for you making it unplayable and broken as you said, try and help out the developers and upload the saved games to the developers and explain to them what your problems are.

All I see from you is wha wha wha. Someone who complains and dosn't do anything to help himself. As you said yourself you can't leave, you want your monies worth buying the game. Do something constructive for once, instead of being so negative all the time. It gets tiring reading your posts, and you will have a hard time people agreeing with you. I use to back you up, but no more.

Call me a fan boy if you like. I love the game, so what? Does that make me a less of a person because I like something and you don't? Stop being a bitter person. If you don't like the game, fine, you don't like the game, but move on. Either sell your game and move on, or be helpfull and constructive.

Other wise I just recomend everyone to ignore you, and block you. Then when you really need help, either by asking a legitimate question or what not, nobody will be here to help you.
